Job Summary: The Business Insights Analyst is primarily responsible for utilizing analytical skills and techniques to develop insights which drive improvement in business processes and performance as directed by the VP of Analytics and Product Development. This role works closely with executives across divisions at Stratus and candidates must be adept at translating technical detail and techniques into actionable insights and actions for a variety of audiences. In addition to routine reporting and ad hoc analyses, the Business Insights Analyst will continually review and evaluate data quality, platforms and retrieval techniques to drive continuous improvement in analytical capabilities/operations at Stratus.
Stratus is in the process of evolving its analytical capabilities with new systems and tools being launched frequently to improve levels of efficiency and control across the enterprise. Responsibilities:Ad hoc Analyses: Core to this role is the responsibility to create ad hoc analyses for unique business problems with the goal of providing outputs which can be actioned to drive measurable changes in business results.
- Perform root cause analyses to drive business requirements in an efficient manner which answers problem statements effectively.
- Address abstract questions with innovative solutions utilizing all resources available.
- Explain direction, drawbacks, and confidence/accuracy of resulting actions before delivering final analysis.
- Explore and seek out new tools, techniques and data sets as needed to perform the best analysis possible.
- Present analysis with appropriate visuals, definitions, and insights to audiences of various skill levels, translating technical detail into business action as appropriate.
Build/Maintain Reporting: Build and maintain reports and dashboards for the business in an accurate and timely manner with stakeholders in mind.
Ensure underlying data and published information on each report is completely accurate prior to publishing.
Communicate effectively to consumers of reporting when there are changes to reporting schedules, additions/removal of information, new methods of measurement, or any other changes to the report which would affect how it is used and/or understood by users.
- Continue to review and optimize data retrieval methods and provide guidance to the business where data entry can influence business insights and outcomes.
- Stratus is in a transition period, relying on traditional reporting in some business units, and shifting to dashboarding platforms in others. This role will have a critical role to play in this transition and the development of new tools/dashboards across the enterprise.
Collaboration: Work with Stratus employees in a wide variety of roles, businesses and levels to ensure understanding of problem statements, available data, and data format/governance before, and during, analyses.
- Closely work with other analysts on Analytics team to ensure best possible data and techniques are being used for each analysis.
- Work with business to gain appropriate context around metrics to inform analyses and develop SLA critical to measuring future performance
- Confidently work with C-suite leaders, keeping direct leaders consistently informed, and ensuring outcomes and deliverables are communicated with the appropriate level of detail and context for executive audiences.
Optimization: As Stratus continues to advance its analytical capabilities it is critical that we seek to optimize and drive change where inefficiencies are identified.
- Drive optimization initiatives as directed by the executive team and hold teams accountable to the quarterly and annual savings or growth targets.
- Utilize knowledge of business, past analyses, and analytics tools and techniques to continually evaluate cross-Stratus processes with an eye for business optimization.
- Act as analytical subject matter expert in IT projects including ERP transitions/upgrade, data architecture changes, data governance developments, etc.
- Identify potential areas of improvement where process improvement, software or technology can improve efficiency or add functionality.
- Evaluate analytical tools and feedback continuously to ensure data is being displayed and utilized in the most effective way possible
The candidate should have at least 4 years of experience as an analyst
Degree in business, finance, computer/data science, information systems, statistics, analytics, or similar is preferred.
The applicant should have a proven history of the following skills;
- Visual development techniques and tools. Power BI/Tableau experience is preferred.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, with standard ability to use Word, and PowerPoint required
- Experience with Python and SQL (or similar) preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Financial acumen and experience preparing financial budgets/forecasts
Ability to work independently as well as in teams with varying levels of expertise
