Highland Consulting Group is a nationwide recruiting firm that focuses on placing top construction talent within the commercial, institutional and industrial sectors.
We are recruiting a detail-oriented construction buyer for a contractor in the Pittsburgh area with construction purchasing experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery of materials. This role has a crucial role in optimizing costs and maintaining high-quality standards. This position is extremely important for the success of larger long-term projects the and reports directly to the Purchasing Manager. No travel is anticipated. A Supply Chain/Logistics professional with three (3) years of related experience in business, purchasing, and operations will be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Work with operations and within the ERP to effectively purchase and arrange delivery of specific direct materials
- Work with operations to clarify specifications, establish source alternatives, increase standardization and otherwise increase value related to purchases
- Work with the procurement team to set minimum & maximum inventory levels, safety stock and order quantities to reduce cost
- Ensure that purchasing decisions and strategies are aligned with the company's strategic supply chain objectives.
- Work with the regional sales and operations team to optimize the inventory strategy; resulting in increased customer service and/or reducing working capital.
- Monitor and research order history of similar products purchased to evaluate and track differences in costs, delivery, quality and performance
- Work with suppliers, plant operations and the supply chain group to improve the quality and/or performance of products and services, contract management practices, track market conditions, pricing trends, and opportunities to maximize purchasing value.
- Support the vendor data management/vendor master maintenance processes through adherence to established payment terms and identifying the need for new or updated data information.
Skills we need:
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the organization's goals and objectives
- Prior purchasing experience in the construction industry
- Excellent ability to partner across the organization; both within the operations, fabrication, and the Procurement teams
- Strong prior purchasing and inventory management experience
- Strong personal and business ethics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to work with suppliers
- Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively with a focus on timeliness and responsiveness
- Ability to drive change and suggest new concepts and approaches through persistence, self-motivation, energy, tenacity, follow-through, and commitment
- Three (3) years of related experience in business, purchasing
