This position will supervise infrastructure and facilities at assigned location(s). Leads and directs the work of staff and volunteers in the delivery of services, which includes managing and maintaining grounds, infrastructure, facilities, equipment, and natural resources at several assigned location(s) usually within one region of the county. They will do this by using practices consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Great Parks of Hamilton County (GPHC).
Position is mobile, based by region, supports management functions in all parks and follows a flexible schedule as assigned. Assigned work location may frequently change, based upon coverage needs.
- Supports management of assets at assigned location(s), including maintenance, management and inspection of grounds, natural resources, facilities and infrastructure, equipment, landscape features, trails, playgrounds, and other features for public or internal use.
- Supports management of designated location(s), Plans and delegates work assignments and projects, provides guidance, resolves work issues, inspects work progress, and ensures work complies with GPHC and Conservation and Parks (C&P) policies and standards. Analyzes and resolves problems. Provides direction to contractors as necessary.
- Performs a variety of technical, manual, and administrative responsibilities, including implementing assessment tools to evaluate natural habitats, and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of Great Parks natural areas, wildlife, and fisheries.
- Frequently assigned to fill in for manager at various locations to cover responsibilities during leave and vacancies. Supervises staff at assigned location(s) including C&P Technicians, Mechanics, Certified Master Mechanics, Maintenance Specialists, and part-time C&P Technicians. Provides functional supervision to volunteers as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Great Parks’ policies and applicable laws, and delegated authority. Facilitates appropriate training for staff and volunteers.
- Evaluates employee performance levels and works with management team and the Region Director to manage staff performance.
- Maintains responsibility for the safety of employees in operation of equipment, performing work tasks, and working in the natural environment. Maintains responsibility for care and proper use of equipment.
- Plans, schedules, and orders materials, including delivery coordination.
- Conducts surveys, collects data, and assists with research to collect, evaluate and present information upon which to make decisions about visitor use, infrastructure, and natural resources management.
- Prepares reports and maintains records as they relate to research results, land use percentages, and necessary reporting measures. Utilizes various wildlife and habitat management techniques consistent with agency and division priorities.
- Responds during off-duty hours for emergencies that impact Great Parks’ resources, safety, or infrastructure, such as sewer discharges, snow removal, material spills, dumping, failed utilities, or hazardous trees.
- Performs job duties in accordance with Great Parks of Hamilton County’s policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Maintains confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information.
- Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance, and works outside of normal schedule as required.
- Occasionally leads hikes, tours and participates in presenting programs to staff and public groups.
- Utilizes and promotes environmentally sustainable practices and processes.
- Supports management team in assigned region with staff coverage.
- Performs job duties in accordance with Great Parks of Hamilton County’s policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
Associates Degree in Parks and Recreation, Natural Resources, or related field and 3 years closely related position; OR High school diploma or GED and at least 5 years related experience with a park, natural resource, or conservation agency, or closely related position.
Knowledge of park, facility, and grounds maintenance techniques, natural resources management techniques, natural history, and supervisory techniques.
Strong team building and coaching skills in both verbal and written communication.
Demonstrated planning and scheduling, recognition of ecological problems, motivation of staff from diverse backgrounds and thought processes, plant identification, collaboration, and public engagement.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines.
- Ohio Pesticide License, within 12 months of employment
