About the Job
- Dive safely; ensure every trip is completed in accordance with DOT regulations, speed limits, and accident-free.
- Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections on every truck driven daily.
- Completes required paperwork accurately and turns in paperwork at the end of each workday.
- Ensure appropriate material distribution and securing load by using tarps as required and tying down the load.
- Responsible for maneuvering the truck at the customer’s site in a safe and accident-free manner at all times.
- Monitors the truck’s mechanical functions to ensure the truck is maintained in accordance with maintenance / DOT schedules.
- Aware of materials allowed hauling and materials not allowed hauling (HAZARDOUS MATERIALS).
- Dialing, holding a mobile phone to ear, and texting while driving are not permitted.
- Safety is a priority, follow all safety rules and wear appropriate PPE at all times, look for opportunities to improve safety.
- Participates in mandatory scheduled safety meetings.
- In the event of an accident/injury, if physically able the driver must immediately call and report to the transportation manager for the next steps. Take photos if possible and wait for Metalico personnel or police to respond.
- The truck is kept clean inside and out.
- Willing to switch from one type of truck to another (For example tractor to Roll Off or from a Roll off to a straight truck, etc.) pending on business needs.
- Class B License Required
- Class A license a plus
- 2+ years of driving experience preferred
- A clean driving record is a plus
- Pick up and deliver containers at customer sites timely and efficient.
- Provide customers with appropriate paperwork and obtain customer signatures on dispatch ticket.
- Represents Metalico in a professional and courteous manner.
- Communicate all customer needs/concerns to the transportation manager.
- Driver must be considerate to not overextend their presence at the customer site, if anything goes wrong (property damage, spills, injuries…), the driver must immediately call and report the incident to the transportation manager for resolution.
- Maintains a positive relationship with yard staff and understands departmental requirements and how each function impacts others within the organization.
- Must be able to enter and exit truck cab using foot and hand holds.
- Depending on need, one must be able to exert force for pushing and pulling. Able to stoop, bend, twist, balance, climb, crouch, and kneel.
- Straight Truck Drivers – physical job, able to push, and pull heavy wagons/containers. Physical limitations must be reported immediately to the Supervisor.
- Applicants must be registered in the Federal DOT Clearinghouse. A job offer will be contingent on a pre-hire physical, including drug screening criminal background screening, and MVR report.
