JMT is seeking a CEI Senior Inspector for the Port St. Lucie, Florida area. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests and is responsible for coordinating and managing the lower-level inspectors. They will also apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
- Performs routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials
- Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes
- Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
- Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project
- Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
- Gathers and maintains record documents
- Makes field notes and computations
- Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Strong computer proficiency
- Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Four (4) years of Construction Inspection Experience (CEI) experience in roadway or bridge construction
- Client requested certifications
- Active driver’s license
Experience Preferred
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
- Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations
- Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role
Qualifications / Certifications
Must have the following as required by the scope of work for the intended assignment on the project at the time of NTP:
- CTQP Final Estimates Level I
- CTQP Concrete Field Technician Level I
- CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II (Bridges)
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II
- CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
- CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection
- Required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structure foundations
- FDOT Intermediate MOT
- IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I
- Nuclear Radiation Safety
- Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors and Contractors
Recommended when the scope of the project includes concrete pavement, grinding concrete pavement, or concrete pavement slab replacement. Courses are available from the Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TC3).

Abilities / Responsibilities
- Ability to: Communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing)
- Responsible for: Performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, marking, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests
- Responsible for: Coordinating and managing the lower level inspectors
- Responsible for: Performing work under the general supervision of the Project Administrator
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
