About the Job
Job Objective: The objective for the Press Brake Operator is set upoperate CNC press brake to bend, notch, punch, form, arc, or straighten metal plates or sheet metal and structural shapes to blueprint or sketch specificationsby performing the following duties (other duties may be assigned):
- Selects, positions, and aligns dies in machine ram and bed.
- Turns setscrews or bolts to fasten clap bar that holds dies in position.
- Starts machine to lower ram or depresses pedal to activate ram that bends metal.
- Programs stop on machine bed and repositions stock to run successive pieces, or to perform multiple operations.
- Verifies dimensions of work piece.
- Performs First Article Inspection as required.
- Grinds laps or burrs from edges of work piece.
- Devises and builds temporary dies.
- Manually programs controller to required specifications.
CMC Expectations of a Successful Press Brake Operator:
- Maintain a safe work area.
- Understand barcode system.
- Understanding of lock out/tag out procedures and ability to use when appropriate.
- Complete maintenance as dictated by maintenance program.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and quality.
- Follow work center procedures (process control) as outlined in the Quality Manual and Procedures.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Must be able to understand and follow instructions given in job folders or on routers.
- Document and notify Quality of any discrepancies and/or nonconformances.
- Accurately document work on the production work order, and note any changes and/or recommendations that are needed for future runs.
- Inspect finished products and parts by comparing them with drawings/blueprints and/or samples to verify that customers’ specifications are met. Document inspections by completing production work order.
- Identify any fault in operating the equipment or in relation to any material or equipment, and then notify Production Supervisor and/or Project Management.
- Consistently and accurately clock in and out, record total quantity, and scrap of production work orders using the MieTrak kiosk.
- Ability to use grinders and other hand tools as necessary.
- Must be a team player.
- Follow and support CMC safety requirements, such as wearing the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ready to work from the start of the shift until the end.
- Follow all company policies, for example, Quality, Safety, and Employee Manuals.
Skills of Press Brake Operator:
- Math Skills: Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; use of calculator) will help Press Brake Operators understand instructions, how plans work and make sure items are cut, bent, formed, etc. correctly.
- Measuring Tool Usage: The use of measuring equipment is necessary to make sure quality specifications are met.
- Problem Solving Skills: Press Brake Operators will need to know when machines are not at peak performance, how to increase output and how to fix errors.
- Attention to Detail: Press Brake Operators will be responsible for detailed forms, bends and shaping. Being observant and safe is critical to the overall well-being of the employee and his/her co-workers. In addition, Press Brake Operators must take great care in their work as it reflects not only visually but in the quality of the completed contract.
- Stamina: Press Brake Operators often work long hours doing repetitive movements.
Preferred:
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance, and stand for long periods of time.
- Certificate from technical school; and/or three to six months related experience and/or training.
Job Type: Full-time
Collins Manufacturing Company reserves the right to conduct on-the-job training for applicants that do not meet all criteria. A minimum of 160 hours of on-the-job training will be required.
