CTE Business Finance Teacher
Established in 2011 by NBA Star Jalen Rose and Co-Founder Michael Carter, JRLA is located on the Northwest side of Detroit in the zip code where Jalen grew up. An open enrollment, tuition-free, public charter high school, JRLA provides a leadership-focused education to 420 scholars and nearly 1,000 alumni. The mission is to empower all scholars to develop the strength of character, skills, and knowledge needed to matriculate, be great in, and graduate from college or a post-secondary program so that they have the opportunities to be successful in the competitive world and take care of themselves and the people they love.
Essential Job Tasks:
- Provide learning activities and experiences to help students attain knowledge and skills for career success as future business leaders, entrepreneurs, and informed consumers.
- Establish a culture of high expectations that ensures that all scholars in the classroom meet their projected individual growth goals
- Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with state standards and JRLA instructional guidelines
- Assess students regularly and personalize classroom instruction based on assessment data and each scholar's needs
- Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school
- Able to manage student run enterprises
- Participate as an active member of the CTE Advisory Board for Business Administration and Finance
- Participate as a sponsor of a CTE student organization and competitions
- Provide students with support and instructional preparation to earn industry certifications where appropriate
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred - not required)
- Individuals must be authorized to teach CTE under at least one of the following three categories:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a CTE endorsement in one of the following CIP Codes:

- Business Administration Management and Operations 52.0299
- Business, Management and Administration 52.9994
- Finance and Financial Management Services 52.0800

- Marketing Education 08.0708
- Be eligible for an Annual Career Authorization with a minimum of 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in any of the above-related fields within the past ten (10) years. Recent & Relevant Experience Requirement
- Postsecondary Teacher of Secondary Students (College faculty are not required to have a teaching certificate and do not have to go through the annual career authorization (ACA) process if they are teaching the course on the postsecondary campus. If the course is not being taught on the postsecondary campus, then the school will need to apply for an ACA for the college instructor
- Knowledge of Business Administration and Finance career field
- Proficient in Google Suites and Microsoft Office, or willing to attend training
- Demonstrated mastery of experiential learning techniques
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning, particularly in various presentation delivery methods
- Strong understanding of career opportunities and skills required for employment in any industry
- Self-motivated with excellent work ethic
- Familiar with cash handling procedures
- Experience coordinating and leading a BPA chapter (preferred) and/or Skills USA chapter
