CalFresh Benefits Coach - West Oakland Job Resource Center

The West Oakland Job Resource Center (WOJRC) is a non-profit, 501(C)3 organization whose mission is to transform the lives of underserved residents of West Oakland and the greater Bay Area by building a thriving, inclusive community that provides financial and economic opportunities by catalyzing industry and policy changes. 

WOJRC is seeking a highly self-motivated individual who is flexible, can work under pressure, requires minimal supervision, and can work in a team setting.  The successful candidate should have prior experience assisting people apply for and receive public benefits, specifically CalFresh. 

Position Summary: This is a part-time position (7.5 hours per week) non-exempt salary position.  This is an “At Will” position. 

The CalFresh Benefits Coach works with a team of Financial and 

Career Coaches and is responsible for assisting 15 to 20 clients per month.  The CalFresh Benefits Coach will work with WOJRC clients who need food assistance and other benefits.  The CalFresh Benefits Coach will work with clients to help them apply for CalFresh and related public benefits and offer them guidance after their benefits have commenced.  The CalFresh Benefits Coach will work with WOJRC Job Developers and Financial Coaches to identify clients who might benefit from the program.   

The CalFresh Benefits Coach will meet regularly with program staff and the Assistant Director as the program progresses.   

Job Duties: & Responsibilities: 

• Work with diverse populations 

• Assist in the client application process 

• Interface with public agencies 

• Collect and properly store sensitive client data 

• Enter data into project database systems 

Skills & Experience 

• Strong knowledge of CalFresh and other public benefits application processes 

• Strong case management and follow-up skills 

• Strong data tracking experience 

• Strong communication and written skills 

• Good time management, ability to prioritize, and is well-organized 

• Good listening skills 

• Must be goal and outcome-oriented 

• Attention to detail 

• Ability to meet deadlines 

• Must be a self-starter 

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements  

• Two years of public benefits work  

• Strong data tracking experience with different database systems. 

• Sound written and verbal communication skills  

• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks  

• Bilingual ability is a plus 

COMPENSATION  

• Salary Range: $17,500 to $19,500, depending on experience
