GENERAL PURPOSE: The Camp and Leadership Director is responsible for summer camp season Girl Scout Leadership Experience program delivery and administration including supervision and support for staff, hiring/onboarding and training of staff, oversight of agency compliance (childcare licensing, ACA accreditation, Health Department, etc.), program planning and facilitation, property strategic planning, mission delivery & care, and risk mitigation at Sky High Ranch, Lazy Acres, and Hamp Hut, Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) properties. Assist Program and Operations Director with the delivery of program. This position is responsible for working beside and acting in lieu of the Executive Camp Director, as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES ***(Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job)
· Camp Program Facilitation
o Summer Camp Responsibilities:
- Oversight of unit program areas, including staff and camper leadership.
- Lead the development, facilitation, and management of the camp summer season including unit staff management, GSLE program creation & delivery, parent/guardian(s) communication, risk management, external regulatory agencies, customer communication, marketing, and other operational logistics. Manage staff units independently and make autonomous decisions without management approval.
o Shoulder Season Responsibilities:
Review and update the following annually:
· All staff paperwork (training, certifications, safety, program, eligibility, etc.) is up to date and current with the statutes and standards dictated by Childcare Licensing, ACA, Colorado Health & Human Services, etc.
· All camper paperwork (health information, parent information, medical documentation, various liability permissions, etc.) is up to date and current with the statutes and standards dictated by Childcare Licensing, ACA, Colorado Health & Human Services, etc.
· Camp Compliance Binders (CO state and GSUSA) and ensure camp is operating with all updated statutes/rules issued by Childcare Licensing, Colorado Health & Human Services and Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints.
· Assist with reviewing and updating of the camp Compliance Binders (ACA, ACCT, CHA and American Red Cross) and ensure camp is operating with all updated standards issued by those entities.
· Pre-camp Cabin Lead and General Staff training to ensure compliance with governing agencies as well as evaluation of training relevancy to the staff's professional development needs.
Serve as the DEI coordinator for the three properties.
· Facilitate partnerships with DEI representative groups and provide family support for getting youth to camp.
· Facilitate partnerships with DEI representative groups to recruit a diverse and representative staff.
· Evaluate and update programs and forms annually with a focus on ensuring accessibility to underserved youth.
Facilitate weekend/weekday programs including staff management, program creation & delivery, risk management, administration, customer communication, external community partnerships, and other operational logistics. § Review and update emergency procedures & action plans for both on-site and off-site camp program.
Conduct program assessments based on the feedback of camper, staff, member and program evaluations for long-term planning and program improvements.
o Research and pursue grant opportunities to benefit the three properties.
o Provide and/or support emergency management during on-site and off-site trip incidents year-round.
o Provide and/or support health and wellness practices.
o Provide support as necessary to Executive Camp Director, director team, and health staff.
· Staff & Camper Leadership
o Recruit, hire, on-board, train and summer seasonal and shoulder season on-call staff in partnership with GSCO P&C department.
o Offboarding and termination of summer seasonal and shoulder season on-call staff as applicable.
o Supervise/manage/delegate Cabin Staff where applicable and support Program Staff with general outdoor program facilitation.
o Supervise/manage/delegate program implementation and oversight of the camper leadership program, 'CIT/WIT/RIT' Counselor/Wrangler-in-Training/Ropes-in-Training program.
o Supervise/manage/delegate Program Aide program integration and project design within specific specialized and general program areas.
o Assist with logistical tasks that may include operational program, health and safety practices, community building, program scheduling, trip facilitation and planning, equipment and supply management, and site care and cleanliness.
o Provide physical, mental, emotional, and social support and care to campers and staff.
o Conduct staff meetings and post-program debrief sessions, expectation setting, and coaching conversations as needed.
· Site Cross Functional Work
o Act as a liaison between camp program and property staff.
o Property work as assigned: Facilitate various site daily tasks, housekeeping duties, and kitchen work.
o Manage site and general program equipment, including storage, maintenance, and usage in coordination with fellow team members.
o Support the work of the site, kitchen, and housekeeping staff as needed.

o Stay current in knowledge of youth development and outdoor recreation industry trends and compliance in relation to the American Camping Association Standards, Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints, Colorado Department of Health and Human Services, and other certifying industry organizations.
o Manage administrative responsibilities in a timely, independent, and detail-oriented manner. Meet program planning and administration deadlines, monitor program budget, respond to emails and phone calls quickly, manage tasks independently and communicate additional support needed.
o Respect the confidential nature of all information pertaining to staff, volunteers, and campers.
o Interact with Girl Scout digital systems including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Asana, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CampMinder, Salesforce, Formstack, Social Media tools and others.
o Conduct regular staff meetings to guide staff in planning and carrying out assignments.
o Coordinate and communicate staff schedules to staff.
o Carry out ongoing unit program observations and training to assure that standards meet the activity criteria and that relationships with campers and staff are positive and appropriate.
· Additional duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Formal Training
· Four-year degree in recreation, education, or youth development preferred. Previous summer camp employment, recreation, or youth development may be accepted in substitution for the preferred bachelor's degree so long as high school diploma or GED has been earned.
· Must have current or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of hire, the following certifications and/or equivalent experience (when applicable): Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness
First Responder, CPR, Medication Administration, Child Abuse Mandated Reporter, Universal Standard Precautions, etc.
Experience
· Proven track record for innovative and engaging program development and facilitation in an informal, outdoor setting.
· Experience teaching children in an informal outdoor setting.
· Experience leading or creating a program with lesson plans.
· Experience in record keeping.
· Preferred experience in DEI program facilitation and/or recruitment.
· Minimum two years of supervisory experience.

· Ability to design, create and facilitate exciting outdoor programs for Girl Scouts of all ages.
· Ability to be flexible, think quickly and modify programs in ever changing situations.
· Ability to communicate program goals, design, and responsibilities to lead a staff team.
2) Program Skill & Ability
· Experience in leading a variety of outdoor, adventure, homesteading, farm, and other generic or specialty activities.
· Familiarity with risk management in an outdoor setting.
· Familiarity with licensing in a camp/childcare setting.
· Ability to respond appropriately and direct others in outdoor emergency situations.
· Ability to manage, maintain, assess, and operate site equipment.
· Ability to drive large passenger vehicles and tow animal & equipment trailers.
3) High Level of Interpersonal and Professional Skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to be a people organizer and leader.
· Represent Girl Scouts of Colorado in a professional manner to staff, members, and the community.
· Ability to work closely with members of the property and Outdoor Program & Property teams in all aspects of work plans, schedules, staff management and program implementation.
· Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
4) Ability to Work Independently
· Strong motivational, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work at a camp property non-traditional office location.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, both administrative and programmatic.
Additional Requirements
· Must be able to pass a criminal background check acceptable to GSCO standards.
· Must be at least 25 years of age, with 3 years of driving experience.
· Access to registered transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business statewide.
· Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the Girl Scout insurance company standards.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
· This position works with program related equipment in areas such as hiking, archery, and other outdoor skills activities.
· This position occasionally works with farm equipment and in an outdoor setting that includes domestic farm animals such as horses, cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens, goats, etc.
· Subject to injuries from falls, accidental strikes, cuts from equipment, etc.
· Computer and related software, telephone, e-mail, fax machines, copiers and equipment commonly found in an office environment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
· Camps are at altitudes of 8,000-9,500 feet.
· Ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends, extended overnight periods and extended work hours, during peak program season (May - September (up to 22 hours per day)).
· Required daily, frequent exposure to highly stimulating and loud environments.
· Program activities are carried out in the out-of-doors often in inclement weather.
· Willing to be on-call at all times, for health, emergency purposes, camper supervision, and program implementation.
· Required to live on-site in shared housing while campers are in session and during the shoulder season for weekend groups, events, weekday user groups etc., as needed and at the directive of the Executive Camp Director.
· Ability to be on-call when necessary for site coverage, program implementation, staffing and emergency purposes.
· Requires extensive walking/hiking >2miles/day over uneven and unpaved terrain.
· Able to carry, lift and/or transfer at least 75 pounds.
· Ability to hear, listen, see, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, use hands & fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands & arms, and balance.
· Must have interpersonal skills/behaviors (i.e. working with individuals with a range of moods & behaviors in a tactful, congenial personal manner, so as not to alienate, or antagonize them).
