Gulf Marine Repair of Tampa, FL is looking to hire a full-time Carpenter Helper. This Helper position pays depending on experience. As a Carpenter Helper, you will be responsible for help carpenters by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include using, supplying, or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Clean work areas, machines, or equipment, to maintain a clean and safe job site.
- Fasten timbers or lumber with glue, screws, pegs, or nails and install hardware.
- Perform tie spacing layout and measure, mark, drill or cut.
- Ability to hold or move items with your hands
- Gather materials for workers to handle on job sites.
- Keep job sites clean and machines serviced.
- Cover services with plastic material to protect them.
- Cut and install insulation.
- Cut and fit tile or linoleum.
- Spread adhesives on flooring to prep for tile.
- Build scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
- Cut timber and lumber to specified dimensions.
- Hold timbers, lumber, and paneling in place for fastening or cutting.
- Drill holes in lumber.
- Hold plumb bobs, sighting rods, and other equipment, to aid in establishing reference points and lines.
- Assist in the layout of foundation, building lines and anchor bolts.
- Set hollow metal doors and frames.
- Install toilets.
- Install trim and cabinets.
- Unload materials from trucks.
- Assist with slabs and elevated structures.
- Frame wood.
- Establish reference points and lines.
- Smooth and sand surfaces using power sanders.
- Place and set slabs and sidewalks.
- Assist the receiving department with tasks assigned as needed
- Complete paperwork as required/instructed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to properly hand doors, install floors set docks, build stairs, build temporary covers of various sizes and shapes, work in confined spaces, operate a pneumatic nail gun, listen and take instructions, receive constructive feedback and work well with others.
- Must have regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing and innovation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must have 2 plus years of experience as a Carpenter Helper.
- Experience working within a commercial or industrial setting is preferred.
- Minor plumbing experience is a plus.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position. Start time will vary 4:00 am, 5:00 am or 7:00 am as needed for an 8 hour shift. Overtime & weekends mandatory when needed.
