Bishop Woodcraft is seeking a talented and experienced Carpenter to join our team. As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for the precise construction and installation of staircases in both residential and commercial settings. You will work with high-quality materials, ensuring the craftsmanship meets the design aesthetic and structural requirements of each project. This is a hands-on role requiring strong carpentry skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and building standards. - Measurement and Planning:
- Understand blueprints, drawings, and design specifications to plan staircase layouts.
- Assess site conditions and coordinate setup, power supply, and material storage.
- Material Selection:
- Compare materials with work orders to ensure correct species and type.
- Inspect materials for defects and ensure they meet quality standards.
- Fabrication:
- Cut, shape, and assemble stair components such as treads, risers, balusters, and handrails using wood or metal components.
- Utilize tools such as saws, drills, and routers for component preparation.
- Installation:
- Ensure the rise and run of the stairs meet code requirements.
- Install components securely and accurately, adhering to building codes and safety standards.
- Inspection and Quality Assurance:
- Conduct quality checks throughout the installation process to meet AWI and company standards.
- Perform a final inspection to ensure structural integrity and aesthetics, addressing any issues promptly.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate safety gear, including protective eye and hearing protection.
- Adhere to local building codes and safety standards to prevent accidents.
- Customer Interaction:
- Maintain clear, respectful communication with clients, site foremen, and other subcontractors.
- Report issues or deviations to the Project Manager and avoid communicating problems directly to clients.
- Problem Solving:
- Adapt to unexpected challenges and resolve issues during the installation process.
- Be flexible and work collaboratively with other subcontractors as necessary.
- Preferably 5+ years of experience in building custom stairs and railing installation and high-end-finish carpentry experience is required.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and wood species.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools, including saws, chisels, and sanding equipment.
- Strong ability to measure, cut, and install materials with precision.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various site conditions.
- Strong communication skills and a positive, problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Sound knowledge of proper layout, gluing processes, and design of stair components.
