Centerless Grinding Technician at Nesco Resource

Nesco Resource is looking for a Centerless Grinding Technician located in Waterbury. This is a direct placement opportunity for the right candidate.

Shift: 7am-3:30pm

Pay: $25-$28/Hour or depending on experience

Job Summary: The Centerless Grinding Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining centerless grinding machines to produce precision parts to exact specifications. This role involves selecting appropriate tooling, interpreting blueprints, adjusting machine settings, and ensuring that parts meet high-quality standards. The technician will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues, performing routine maintenance, and working closely with other team members to ensure smooth production processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate centerless grinding machines to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Install, adjust, and secure grinding wheels, work blades, and other tooling required for production.
• Adjust machine settings for grinding speed, feed rate, and part positioning to achieve desired tolerances.
• Monitor grinding operations to ensure parts meet precise tolerances and quality standards.
• Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions.
• Make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy, surface finish, and dimensional consistency.
• Select and install appropriate grinding wheels and other tooling for specific jobs.
• Calibrate and fine-tune machine components to maintain optimal performance.
• Change worn grinding wheels and perform dressing operations to maintain wheel condition.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with machine performance, surface finish, or part geometry.
• Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs to the machines.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams for major repairs or overhauls as needed.
• Ensure all finished parts meet required specifications for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and quality.
• Work with quality control personnel to identify and resolve any defects or discrepancies.
• Maintain detailed records of setups, adjustments, and production runs.
• Communicate with supervisors and production teams to coordinate workflow and meet production schedules.
• Provide guidance and training to machine operators on proper setup and operation of centerless grinding machines.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and setting up centerless grinding machines in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of centerless grinding principles and machine operations.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings.
• Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 40 lbs).
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Knowledge of different types of grinding wheels and their applications.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve machining issues.
• A proactive approach to machine maintenance and optimization.
