*GLOBAL CENTER FOR AUTISM SERVICES JOB DESCRIPTION*
*Job Title*: _*Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) *_*Position Reports To: *_Coordinator of Occupational Therapy Services_
*GENERAL SUMMARY: *_The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for the assistant the Occupational Therapist in implementation of occupational therapy to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (to include early intervention through adolescent services) in a center-based setting for the Global Center for Autism Services (GCAS) in Lanham, Maryland. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) duties include conducting, under the guidance and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, new patient intakes, administering patient evaluations using the latest evidence-based practice, create intervention plans and direct treatment delivery to children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will assist the Occupational Therapist in developing and implementing parent trainings, and integrate them into all treatment plans, providing strategies to parents to increase the effectiveness of treatment. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will provide direct treatment to patients and create and submit progress reports to the Occupational Therapist for submission to patient insurance carriers. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will also work collaboratively with Coordinator of Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapist(s), Clinical Director(s), Clinical Quality Director, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Speech & Language Pathologists, Director of Operations and Executive Director._
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*
*Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*
* ● _Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy_
* ● _Certification as Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)_
* ● _Familiarity with assessment tools including but not limited to: PDMS-2, Beery VMI, BDI2, SP, SPM, BOT-2,HELP, DTVP-2, SIPT, and Vineland II preferred, but not required_
* ● _Excellent time management skills_
* ● _Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Sheets)_*Required Length and Type of Experience:*
● _Experience, schooling and/or training in providing occupational therapy treatment, utilizing evidenced based practices for individuals with autism spectrum disorder_
*Required Licensure, Certification or Registry:*
* ● _Licensed by the Maryland Department of Health_
* ● _Certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy_*Required Physical and Environmental Demands:*
● _Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting students, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination, physically able to manage students of varying weight and sizes. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids._
*PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* _Assist Occupational Therapist in conducting initial intakes and parent conferences to gather relevant information._
* _Assist Occupational Therapist in developing & implementing occupational therapy treatment, plans of care includinggoals and objectives._
* _Address client’s occupational performance to support engagement in occupations (i.e., activities of daily living (ADL)across environments affecting health, well-being, safety and quality of life in a person with autism spectrum disorder._
* _Create and perform task analyses to break down activities into achievable components for both the client and theirfamily/caregivers._
* _Assist Occupational Therapist in guiding and educating family members and caregivers during evaluation andtreatment processes._
* _Observe, note, and perform daily data collection, including creation of report on progress of long and short termtreatment goals._
* _Consult across disciplines to provide suggestions for environmental adaptations (i.e., board certified behavioranalysts, speech & language pathologists)._
* _Provide direct treatment to patients and create progress reports and submit to Occupational Therapist for submissionto patient insurance carriers._
* _Assist registered behavior technicians in treatment techniques that support progress towards patient treatment goalsand objectives._
* _PerformotherrelateddutiesasmaybeassignedbyCoordinatorofOccupationalTherapyServices,Supervisor,Director of Operations and/or Executive Director._
