About the Job
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to deliver therapeutic services to residents in a skilled nursing rehabilitation setting. The COTA helps implement treatment plans to assist residents in improving their ability to perform daily living tasks and achieve maximum independence.
Key Responsibilities:
• Resident Care: Carry out therapy interventions as directed by the Occupational Therapist, focusing on improving residents’ abilities in activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
• Treatment Implementation: Provide hands-on assistance during therapy sessions, using exercises, activities, and assistive devices to promote functional abilities.
• Progress Monitoring: Observe and document residents’ progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the Occupational Therapist.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of all therapy sessions, including treatment details, resident progress, and any modifications made to treatment plans.
• Resident & Family Education: Instruct residents and their families on how to continue therapeutic exercises and use adaptive equipment at home, as guided by the Occupational Therapist.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the OT, nursing staff, and other rehabilitation professionals to coordinate care and ensure that the resident’s treatment goals are met.
• Compliance: Adhere to facility policies and state/federal regulations, ensuring proper care standards are maintained at all times.
Qualifications:
• Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Certification: Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in [State].
• Licensure: Active COTA license in [State].
• Experience: Preferably 1-2 years of experience in a skilled nursing or rehabilitation setting, but new graduates will be considered.
• Skills:
• Knowledge of occupational therapy techniques and assistive devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
