Job Title: Surgical Technician 2

Job Summary:
The Surgical Technician 2 functions in the intraoperative phase of patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, facilitating surgical procedures by ensuring the operating room environment is safe and equipped with necessary instruments and equipment. This role involves assisting the surgical team, maintaining sterile techniques, and ensuring the proper handling and care of surgical instruments and supplies.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare and maintain sterile fields and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and assist during procedures to ensure efficiency.
• Perform surgical counts of instruments, sponges, and needles according to established protocols.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and specimen handling.
• Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment post-surgery.
• Follow infection control guidelines and regulatory standards to maintain a safe environment.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduation from an Accredited Program for Surgical Technologists.
• Experience: Less than 1 year of experience required.
• Certification/License/Registration: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from NBSTSA or NCCT preferred. Military/Public Health Service training in surgical technology or prior experience in a surgical technologist role before September 1, 2009, also accepted.
