Job Description:
The surgical tech functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and according to established nursing standards and surgery center policies/procedures The surgical tech at the Butler Ambulatory Surgery Center assists with surgical procedures as a scrub member of the surgical team. You will need to be able to function independently in a sterile environment. You will need to be compassionate and cool-tempered. It is expected that all state and national health and safety guidelines are followed.
Responsibilities:
-Maintain a clean and safe surgical environment.
-In accordance with doctor's preference and established standards, measures the presence of all instruments and equipment, and supplies necessary for surgical and/or GI procedures.
-Inspects all instrument trays after placement onto sterile or clean field as appropriate to ensure all required items are available.
-Responsible for care and handling of surgical and GI equipment used.
-Set up sterile field and perform surgical assistant scrub role for specific surgical procedure.
-Maintains neat, orderly and safe sterile or clean field and practices economy in the use of all supplies.
Assists in maintaining accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments, as per standard.
-Performs duties in the instrument or scope processing area such as washing, assembling, and sterilizing instruments and ensuring that they are functional.
Qualifications:
-Graduate of an approved surgical technology program
-BLS
Skills:
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, physicians and other nursing staff personnel.
-Physical ability required for prolonged periods of standing or walking, and to occasionally assist with transporting patients and equipment.
-Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and operative or diagnostic procedures as applied to each patient.
Displays dexterity in use of instruments.
-Knowledge of step by step procedure for all gastroenterology cases and surgical cases.
