Job Title: Chef (Full Time)
Shift: 40hours / week
Pay: $21.63/hour
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The person in this role is responsible for food services / preparation / cooking / inventory / and management for CHGA as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Covenant House Georgia reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following:
- Arrive at CHGA by 5:30am for an 8-hour shift.
- Develops nutritionally balanced menus & meals
- Prepares and posts monthly menus for breakfast, sack-lunch, dinner, & snacks, etc. for youth and staff as directed
- Prepares and/or serves meals and occasional special functions as needed
- Ensures that: appropriate portion control is maintained; wasted food is kept to a minimum; all kitchen equipment is in safe and efficient operating condition; always maintains the kitchen in a sanitary and orderly condition; manages inventory
- Works effectively with volunteers in our Prepare and Share a Meal program by greeting them, providing a tour of the kitchen and helping as needed to help them prepare and serve meals to our youth
- Meets all safety, health and sanitary regulations & inspections of the State of Georgia, Department of Health, and OSHA
- Upholds Covenant House Georgia standards of conduct, policies and procedures always
- Models appropriate, professional behavior for staff to establish and maintain superior services to youth in a safe and inviting atmosphere
- Ensures compliance of any required files in accordance with specific city, state, federal, or contracted guidelines
- Participates in other CHGA programs and activities as required
- Provides support and guidance for youth centered culinary arts initiatives
- Maintains ServSafe certification
- Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, representatives of other agencies, and the public
- Effectively communicates, verbally and in writing, with both internal and external individuals and/or businesses
- Responds in a timely manner to emergencies and resolve issues
- Performs all other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: this position does not typically supervise other staff but may supervise volunteers and / or others as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Pass CHGA background check
- Pass CHGA child safety training, review, & test
- High School Diploma
- Institutional / commercial menu, meal, planning & prep cooking
- Foodstuff acquisition, stocking, and inventory management
- Good commercial kitchen organizational & operational skills
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License and good driving record
- ServSafe Certified
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Ability to work standing, walking, and/or sitting a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift.
- Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel as needed for training or to fulfill job requirements.
