Duties and Responsibilities
- Address clients’ product and material needs by generating innovative ideas and solutions that employ soybean components.
- Develop and formulate new products with numerous applications, such as monomers, coatings, polymers, adhesives, surfactants, lubricants, additives and greases.
· Develop cost-effective solutions that maintain or enhance product performance.
- Interact closely with other scientists to develop comprehensive solutions.
· Identify other challenges presented by existing products and processes that may lend themselves to bio-based solutions.
· Plan and conduct research activities.
· Report on research both internally (to Airable staff and management) and externally (to commercial clients).
- Maintain laboratory records and write reports and research summaries, as required.
· Collaborate with non-R&D efforts (e.g., business development), as needed.
· Create and protect intellectual property.
- Maintain continuous knowledge of technical developments in the field.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in chemistry, polymer science and chemical engineering, or a closely related field
- Polymer synthesis background, such as condensation and free radical polymerization
- Highly motivated and self-driven, with the ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams
- Ability to multi-task under aggressive timelines to support team and corporate objectives
- Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and creativity
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of structure–property relations and materials properties; ability to design materials to desired properties
- Demonstrated innovative accomplishments with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Knowledge of developing and formulating new products in the broad fields of organic, inorganic, and hybrid materials with various applications
- Experience with bio-based materials, bio-based building blocks, and soy-based product development
- 0 – 7 years of experience
