Overview:
We are looking for a Chief Medical Officer Palliative to join our team. This position will directly report to the SVP President of Palliative and is responsible for providing the organization with physician leadership, with an emphasis upon advanced illness management (AIM) and palliative care medicine.
- Provides patient care management advice by telephone or electronic communication to local programs, including their clinical staff, AIM and Palliative Directors, and palliative/AIM physicians. This role is only intended to offer advice and not define, provide orders, or assume the role of a treating physician. This role must adhere to state licensing laws.
- Promotes compliance with local, state, and federal laws, Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health care program regulations, and company policies and procedures.
- Review palliative and AIM documentation for performance improvement purposes and for compliance with state and federal regulations and statutes.
- Doctorate degree in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine from an accredited medical school
- Board certification in a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Associations Bureau of Osteopathic Specialties (AOA-BOS) [primary care specialty preferred]
- Should possess exemplary leadership skills with a passion for optimizing the care of patients with advanced illness, palliative care, and hospice needs.
- Possesses a reputation and positive image in the community as an authority in palliative medicine.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Experience with and ability to work within a distributed physician medical staff (or similar) structure.
- Familiarity with and ability to work within an interdisciplinary setting.
- Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine within at least one state within division of responsibility
- Clear of any contractual restrictions to provide clinical and administrative services on behalf of Gentiva
- Current and valid National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- Current and unrestricted DEA Registration for Schedules 2 through 5 and any applicable state-controlled substance prescribing registration
- Hospice and Palliative Medicine board certification from ABMS or AOA-BOS, and/or Hospice Medical Director Certification Board certification is preferred
- 3–5-year experience in the palliative space
- 3–5-year experience or exposure to providing care in a value-based environment
- Ability to travel up to 50%
