Our District:
The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.
Our Community:
Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

This position's responsibilities are to set up for serving hot meals, to serve, to clean up serving and kitchen areas, to collect money and tickets for meals, to make change, and to record and deposit money.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Sets up serving carts and warming ovens for serving healthy meals to provide nutrition for educational achievement.
- Fills condiment containers, sets out utensils, napkins, trays and other serving items before food arrives.
- Serves meals to students and staff, serves appropriate quantities and presents food attractively.
- Cleans and wipes down serving and meal areas between lunch periods, refills containers and serving items.
- Serves as food service cashier, collects meal money and tickets and makes change.
- Counts and records money and tickets, prepares bank deposits and may transport money to bank for deposit.
- Assists in unloading food, and in placing food in serving carts and oven according to proper food handling procedures.
- Cleans carts, tables and other food serving areas after meal periods; stores equipment.
- Loads dirty dishes, pans and other food preparation items to be washed.
- Washes dishes, utensils, pots and pans; cleans and wipes food preparation surfaces, dishwashers and counters.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares list of next day’s order for food and supplies.
- May transport food and dishes to and from school sites in a van as assigned; loads and unloads items from van.
- Supervises student helpers as needed; monitors and corrects behavior as necessary.
- Maintains records and files, such as lists of students on free and reduced lunch program.
- Serves as member of food services team of the district; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Mental Demands:
- Performs under strict meal deadlines.
- Required to time multiple tasks for completion in proper sequence.
- Required to anticipate quantities and order for cost-efficiency and proper storage.
- Required to accurately count and record money.
Physical Demands:
- Exposed to heat from ovens, burners and steam trays.
- Exposed to cutting and slicing equipment and machines with moving parts.
- Required to stand for prolonged periods.
- Required to move heavy supplies and full pans of food.
- Required to correctly lift heavy objects up to 35 pounds
- Exposed to high noise levels from kitchen equipment and students at meals.
- Required to wear protective clothing.
- If assigned to transport food, exposed to traffic conditions and inclement weather.
- Required to assist students by cleaning meal spills.
Position Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to correctly lift heavy objects up to 35 pounds.
- Skill in cooking, preparing and presenting nutritious and attractive meals.
- Knowledge in proper food handling techniques.
- Knowledge in food service safety and sanitation.
- Knowledge in nutrition.
- Skill in maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to accurately count and record money.
- Ability to order and account for food service items.
- Ability to supervise student behavior.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and vendors.
Education, License, Certification, Formal Training:
- High school graduation or equivalent and one year of experience in commercial/institutional food preparation.
- Experience serving food or as a cashier desirable.
- Experience working with school-aged children desirable.
- Valid Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
- Positions required to transport food require valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Completion of mandatory Safe Schools Trainings.
