Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta is the first legal and policy advocacy center
dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in Georgia and the Southeast. Founded in 2010 to create a powerful voice for AANHPI and AMEMSA (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian) communities in the South, we provide in-language direct legal services to low-income clients, coordinate civic engagement and voter mobilization work in Georgia, lead and shape public policy for AANHPI immigrants and refugees, and develop new leaders to create a better Georgia.
Position Summary
Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta is seeking a Civic Engagement Manager who will help us build a movement in this critical moment toward change for and by Asian Americans, immigrants, and all communities of color in Georgia and across the South.
The Civic Engagement Manager will be responsible for the oversight and success of the civic engagement program targeting AANHPI/AMEMSA eligible voters and civic engagement projects in immigrant communities. This role will strengthen current alliances and develop new alliances that build our power and advance our Civic Engagement Goals. They will assure the ladder of engagement is implemented where community members are being funneled to civic engagement volunteer opportunities. They will assure our ongoing programming is culturally responsive, educational, inclusive, and leads to activist development. They will directly supervise our Metro Field Managers and Canvassers in collaboration with Senior Community Organizer (s). This position will be a direct report to the department’s Director coordinating as needed with staff from other departments and community partners for successful execution of any and all campaigns and projects.
The Civic Engagement Manager will also work irregular hours - weekends and evenings - to accommodate election cycles, issue-based campaign and community project schedules.
Main Responsibilities:
Civic Engagement:
Assures field work of our civic engagement efforts during an election cycle from voter registration, canvassing, phone/text banking, or election protection are in alignment with overall set strategy.
Manages the day to day activities of the civic engagement program and canvassers.
Manages weekly canvassing schedule.
Verifies completion of weekly safety and field reports.
Develops canvasser retention strategies and conducts regular check in meetings for all field canvassers and staff leads.
Runs canvasser onboarding and training.
Keeps close communication with the Data Analyst to assure weekly field reports are completed accurately.
Assures overnight canvassing trips are completed with external partners and supports Senior community organizers with logistics.
Assists Director with updating all voter resources and training materials.
Manages our election protection efforts by conducting training for volunteers and day of scheduling.
Reviews voter educational projects and resources before the Director.
Recruits community translators for ongoing projects,
Reviews all canvasser/volunteer scripts for MiniVan, Thrutalk, and Thru Text.
Runs all volunteer canvass days.
Leadership development through political education and skills-building:
Manage field team to assure programmatic goals are set and deadlines are met
Manages skills-training and political education required by volunteers, coalition partners, and/or community members to advance organizing goals and campaigns
Develops and implement leadership development activities of all organizers and canvassers
Manages initiatives designed to promote the organization's programs and services to the priority community.
Campaign development through research, strategic escalation, and alliance-building:
Oversees campaigns and organizing projects
Evaluate materials for existing campaigns
Works alongside communications department and external vendors to ensure we have appropriate campaign literature and mailers are sent on time
Other responsibilities as identified by supervisor, including:
Oversee interns, and/or contractors
Represent the organization in professional settings
Other duties as assigned by the organization
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
Demonstrated commitment to the mission, goals, and work of Advancing Justice – Atlanta
At least 3 years of experience or significant commensurate involvement working with relevant grassroots organizations and/or campaigns.
Experience facilitating meetings and/or trainings strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a strategic and efficient fashion
Familiarity with Georgia’s AANHPI/AMEMSA and immigrant communities preferred
Strong administrative, management, facilitation, interpersonal, and leadership development skills
Bilingual in English and an Asian language preferred
Team-oriented and collaborative person who is also capable of working independently
Flexibility and willingness to work evenings/weekends
Organized and detail-oriented with ability to write clearly and concisely
Access to vehicle and a valid GA driver’s license
Exercises independence and autonomy in all aspects of the work.
Expertise with the Georgia election process and landscape.

Salary range is $62,000 – $84,000, commensurate with experience, and is based on principles of internal equity.
