About the Job
System One is seeking to contract with a highly motivated Plant Integration Engineer for the Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) integration team on our client’s advanced nuclear reactor projects. This is a long-term, fully remote position. In this role, you will support the CSA Integration Lead in the development of plant level requirements and strategies relevant to first of a kind nuclear facility design, perform technical review of work products, and facilitate the integration of strategies and work products to ensure successful execution of civil, structural, and architectural design and construction. The successful candidate will coordinate with engineers working on structures, systems, components, and engineering analyses for successful integration of input and requirements for nuclear plant design and analysis. Candidates must have extensive experience in civil/structural design and analysis for extreme and external hazards, project coordination, and performing owners’ acceptance review.

- Research, develop, and implement structural design bases and design strategies in support of plant design and licensing activities, including risk-informed, performance-based strategies and methodologies for application to extreme and external hazards
- Develop, maintain, review, and refine plant level and system level requirements and specification documents for integration with plant design activities
- Interface with design disciplines to identify and develop design information and specify structural design and performance criteria
- Ensure and review that licensing and code requirements are clearly established and implemented in the design and in alignment with project design and licensing strategies
- Perform and support oversight review of civil, structural, and architectural work products for acceptance into project configuration control
- Support and review plant engineering decisions as a civil, structural, and architecture integration SME
- Coordinate with civil/structural multi-system integrated analyses such as soil-structure interaction (SSI) analyses, seismic analytical model development, external hazard fragility, and probabilistic risk assessment
- Support monitoring and appraisal of design organizations, partners, contractors, and subcontractors’ performance to ensure that all technical requirements for the design are effectively and correctly implemented and processes are followed
- Support design and integration reviews and resolution of cross functional technical issues
- Support the integration of plant information into licensing basis and regulatory submittal documents that support the licensing of nuclear facilities under the Licensing Modernization Project
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Education: M.S. degree in Civil engineering or equivalent or higher
- 10+ years of civil/structural design and analysis and/or probabilistic risk assessment experience
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
- Candidate must have strong analytical/problem solving skills
- Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate with internal and external engineering and design teams with minimal direction
- Experience with new nuclear power plant design projects
- Experience with risk-Informed performance based, and probabilistic methodologies for application to external hazard design and analyses
- Experience in a broad range of design and integration topics throughout a product lifecycle, including conceptual design, final design, and construction
- Experience with structural design for complex extreme and external hazard loading such as seismic and aircraft impact
- Experience with commercial codes and standards such as UBC, ACI 318, AISC 360 and ASCE 7
- Experience with nuclear codes and standards such as ACI 349, ACI 359, AISC N690, ASCE 4, and ASCE 43
- Experience working projects with NRC or DOE regulations
- Ability to deliver projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
- Ability to work on tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
- Strong communication skills desired
