About the Job
Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients of all age groups according to Nutrition Care Process and serves as a nutrition resource to the medical staff, ETMC hospital staff and the community. Assists in the direction of clinical support staff by coordinating and providing leadership. The incumbent is under the general direction of the Director of Nutrition Services. Some callback and weekend work may be required. Identifies and assesses patients of all age groups and initiates nutrition care plans to bring about improvements in nutritional status. Assesses trauma and acutely ill patients of all age groups (during catabolic phase) and recommends appropriate feeding modality to help preserve lean body mass. Evaluates the success of the nutrition plan by monitoring current acceptance of nutrition (in whatever form) and adjusting plan as necessary in order to provide the most appropriate nutrition under the circumstances. Develops and teaches appropriate nutrition materials and preparation methods to educate all age groups so that the learner(s) will have a usable knowledge of the diet. Serves as the nutrition resource person via participating in multidisciplinary teams, trauma rounds and committees communicating patients nutritional needs and issues to positively affect nutritional care. Participates in the development and the process of quality indicators and performance improvement to improve nutrition care. Serves as a preceptor in the training of dietetic interns during their clinical rotation.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Dietetics, active member of the American Dietetic Association. Experience: 1-3 years clinical experience preferred. Certification and Licensure: Proof of current registration and Texas Licensure or must successfully pass exams within 1 year of employment.
