The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Senior is responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. This position performs requested clinical procedures on body fluids and clinical procedures related to patient care; performs quality control, maintenance, trouble shooting on laboratory instruments; performs clerical work in the absence of a technical assistant; and assist the supervisor in any capacity requested. This position does an inventory assessment and order supplies. This position performs tracking for specimens transported to Baptist and helps with send outs to reference laboratories and receive and approve same results. This position assists with trouble shooting of all instruments in the laboratory departments trained in and performs maintenance. This position assists in the ordering of supplies and scheduling of staff as needed. This position takes responsibility for their laboratory department in the absence of the laboratory manager and supervisor and assists with policy/procedure writing/review.
Responsibilities
Medical Technologist Senior team performs as the technical supervisor over their assigned department. Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor. Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required. Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor or if unable to solve the problem. Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals. Maintains work area-cleans bench, restocks supplies, notifies supervisor of low stock. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Responsible for working in all departments of the laboratory when working a night shift.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
