About the Job
The Cloud Solutions Intern will work as part of the MARS Platform team at Maximus, assisting with cloud infrastructure projects and participating in the team's daily activities. The team is responsible for building highly resilient, scalable, and reusable platforms and underlying infrastructure in an automated and efficient manner to support the ConnectionPoint and MAXe applications. The intern will learn about approaches to client problem solving, communication with multiple stakeholders, and gain understanding on technological solutions delivery. The ideal candidate will be curious and inquisitive, eager to work on cloud-related projects, and have some familiarity with AWS and strong scripting skills. This will be a fully remote summer internship, beginning May 28th and ending August 2nd.
Preferred:
- Some understanding of AWS IaaS and working knowledge on AWS CLI.
- Strong scripting skills preferably in Python, Perl, or Unix shell scripting.
- Some knowledge of SSL certificates management.
- Working knowledge some or all of AWS EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, EKS, Route53, Lambda, and Auto-scaling services.
- Exposure to AWS networking and security capabilities.
- Understanding of container technology (Kubernetes/Docker/TAS).
- Exposure to Agile development methodologies and processes, and tools in support of DevOps practices.

- Must be willing to work in pair programming setup.
- Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
About MARS Platform Team
The MARS Platform team was formed when Maximus decided to embark upon a journey to adapt the microservices architecture to modernize its product suit that caters to the customer needs. This modernization effort started with the development of ConnectionPoint product hosted on VMWare Tanzu PaaS deployed in AWS. Apigee, API Manager Platform is used for all incoming API requests for all applications deployed on PaaS. Jenkins is used as a CI/CD tool with Jfrog as the artifact repository. Concourse is used for the PaaS upgrade and maintenance. Other AWS native services like ELK/Kibana, Amazon Aurora, EKS, CloudWatch/CloudTrail/Route53 service/Lambda/AWS Config/Secrets Manager. etc. are used to support the core platform. Our primary focus is on high reliability, scalability using automation as much as possible. Team uses DevOps/DevSecOps as standard processes and on Agile Scrumban and "pair programming" is at the core of its daily work culture. The team is a believer in the "Automate first" philosophy and follow the "You build your own" concept.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work on IT assignments of moderate difficulty, under the direction of a more senior mentor, to build a well-rounded skillset
- Escalate issues and questions to management as necessary
- Participate in group discussions with peers or external groups to solution problems of moderate scope
- Participate in meetings to gain process knowledge and guidance on assigned projects
- Read, understand and perform assignments within prescribed guidelines
- Approach challenges and create solutions with a critical thinking and customer service mindset
- Prepare standard reports and presentation materials.
Minimum Requirements

- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a college degree in a related major including systems, technical, engineering, analytics, or similar field.
- Must have completed 2 years of coursework.
- Good organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards.
