Pay Rate: $27/hr-$28/hr (depending on experience)
Location: Alexandria, VA 22304
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 6am-4pm
Code Welder Responsibilities:
- The inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment
- Inspect and adjust, as necessary, the mechanical alignment, balance, level and general condition of conveyors, compressors, boilers, pumps, water treatment equipment, stokers, fans turbines, diesel engines, gear reducers and other rotating equipment throughout the plant
- Check, repair, adjust or replace couplings, bearings and mounts
- Fabricate and weld to standard platforms, chutes and other non-pressure vessel code welding procedures
- Perform weld repairs on pressure part vessels and piping
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks including routine vibration test, thermography & ultrasonic testing
- Actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment.
- Use various shop equipment in the performance of his/her assigned tasks, such as the repair or rebuilding of soot blower devices, gearboxes, speed reducers, pumps and other assemblies
- Read and interpret measuring tools, graphs and technical manuals
- Follow all health and safety rules and regulations mandated by law and per the policies and procedures. Keep work area clean, safe and orderly
Code Welder Qualifications:
- To qualify you must have at least 5 years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment
- Have a minimum of 5 years in power plant operating environment.
- Formal technical or apprenticeship training is desired.
- Valid Driver’ s License issued by state of residence and in good standing.
- Pressure part welding of carbon steel and stainless with previous qualification in all positions to NBIC code specs.
- Must be able to read and use blue prints, construction drawings and AWS welding symbols.
- Must be capable of performing welding in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW as well as all portable cutting technologies.
- The ability to read, understand and apply information such as OSHA lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, and procedure manuals.
- Training and experience in general rigging practices specifically in boiler element rigging.
- Training and skills in metal working tools and metal working shop equipment in the performance of his/her assigned tasks.
- Flexibility to respond for on-call unscheduled boiler tube repair support and work a varied schedule as required.
