1. Position
- Coil Receiving Ground Operator
- FLSA Classification(s): Non-Exempt/Hourly
2. Job Summary
- Coil Receiving Ground Men work with the Gantry Crane Operator to register, tag and unload coils of steel from incoming railroad cars.
3. Immediate Supervisor
- This position reports directly to the Shift Supervisor
4. Standards
- Provide exceptional customer service to all customers, suppliers, and employees.
- Constantly represent Axis Pipe and Tube in a positive and professional manner regardless of customer requests, complaints, or demeanor.
- Comply with Axiss policies and procedures.
- Interact with other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- Communicating all matters relating to the work being undertaken and any significant issues to the supervisor.
5. Responsibilities
- Assist crane operators picking up and moving coil
- Enforce safety regulations by preventing people from loitering under the crane
- Electronically register and tag incoming coils
- Understand proper use of company radio.
- Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.
- Understand the proper use and maintenance of hand tools.
- Responsible for completing any assignments given by Supervisor, even those assignments not specifically listed in this job description.
- Responsible for the collection and identification of Quality Chemical analysis samples.
6. Qualifications
- High School Diploma, OR Equivalency Certificate, (GED (General Education Degree), etc.)
- One to three months related experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Knowledge of use and care of common hand tools
7. Working Conditions
- This position requires frequent communication, both written and oral.
- The work environment for this position is primarily in a manufacturing plant with loud noise from heavy machinery, grease, and dirt.
- There may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extreme cold and heat, handling hazardous chemicals, bad odors, dirt, and dust.
- Workers will be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, walk long distances and work in confined spaces.
- Work might involve pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy materials.
- Position requires the use of personal protective equipment.
8. Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
- The employee frequently is required to climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
