POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Collection Strategies and Analysis Librarian (CSAL) reports directly to the Associate University Librarian for Collections, Research, and Engagement Services and plays a critical role in the strategic development and management of the Kelvin Smith Library collections. The position is responsible for analyzing collection data, developing collection strategies, and ensuring that our resources meet the evolving needs of our research-intensive community. This position collaborates with research services, special collections, and acquisitions librarians, the Creation & Curation Services Division, and Case Western Reserve University libraries to effectively assess collection strengths, identify critical gaps, and budget for materials in all formats. The CSAL also represents Case Western Reserve University Libraries in OhioLINK and assists in creating and enhancing consortial and vendor arrangements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. General Duties: Make decisions on a strategic basis; collaborate and partner effectively internally and external to the organization; provide expertise in collection management strategies and applied best practices; use advanced techniques and technology to innovate; perform highly complex or specialized duties; communicate effectively and employ general management theories and practices. Possess extensive knowledge, skills and abilities within library science; accomplishments are recognized at the University and in the profession; maintain knowledge about library emerging issues and trends and the role of the library; understand and articulate organizational positioning, strategic alignment, change management, and leadership. (20%)
2. Collection Strategy Development: As a Leader of the Collections Strategies Steering Committee and in consultation with other key stakeholders, develop and implement strategic collection development plans that align with the institution's research priorities and academic programs. Collaborate with subject librarians and faculty to identify emerging research trends and areas of need. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of collection strategies, making recommendations and adjustments as necessary. (18%)
3. Collections Analysis: Utilize data and collection analytics tools (e.g., Greenglass, Tableau) to assess the effectiveness and impact of library collections. Collaborate with KSL¿s current assessment, analytics, and data visualization colleagues to obtain a comprehensive picture of collection usage, overlap, and gaps. Share collection reports and visualizations for librarians and library staff involved in the decision-making process. In coordination with the Acquisitions/E-Resources Librarians, develop and implement assessment tools to measure the impact and value of the library's collections. Prepare and present regular reports to library leadership and other stakeholders. (16%)
4. Budget Management: Assist in the management of collection budgets, making recommendations for optimal allocation of resources. Work collaboratively with Senior Finance Manager on annual collection allocations & strategies. Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative funding sources to support collection development. (15%)
5. Vendor and Publisher Relations: Engage in KSLs and CWRUs licensing process, including negotiating and managing relationships with vendors and publishers to acquire licensed resources and stewarding license review through the Office of General Counsel and Procurement. Stay informed about the industry trends and development in scholarly publishing (i.e. open access publishing agreements and/transformative agreements). Serve as a voting member of the OhioLINKCooperative Information Resource Management Team (CIRM) to assist in creating, enhancing, and sustaining consortial vendor
