Collections Representative - Suffolk Credit Union

As a Collections Representative you will assist members with collection issues and process all collections notices.

Responsibilities:

• Conducts collection calls on negative accounts and consumer loans
• Processes restraining notices
• Process CUNA claims and disability notices
• Process bankruptcy notices
• Process daily death notices, reclamations, and prepares deceased files to referral to outside attorneys
• Process weekly collection report
• Handles the process to charge off negative accounts and prepares charged off loans and negative accounts referrals sheets for collection agencies or outside counsel
• Fields incoming calls for how to close out deceased accounts
• Manages payment plan log and follow-ups on payments
• Provides back-up assistance to process and answer eOscar disputes
• Provides back-up assistance to set cars up for repossession
• Posts daily payments and payments from collection agencies
• Assists members with collection issues and works on solutions for payment
• Liaisons with insurance companies, OwnersChoice Mortgage and other third parties
• Process loan extensions in XP
• Process credit card payments via on-line gateway portal
• Assists with ad-hoc projects and monthly/quarterly reports
• Logs and handles daily mail
• Maintain logs for negative accounts, bankruptcies, and accident logs
• Maintains accurate records and documentation for collection activities
• Answers phone, emails and mail requests from Members
• Backs up other departmental staff as necessary
• Achieves a minimum of "Satisfactory" rating on internal audits and examinations
• Accomplishes the credit union's mission by completing relevant duties as needed when requested by management or other staff members

Essential Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalency certification required. One to two years of experience required, preferably in financial services.

• Knowledge of credit union collection procedures and policies
• Knowledge of credit union products, services, policies, regulations and procedures
• Proficient in Excel and Word
• Demonstrated skill handling sensitive information and situations
• Demonstrated skill in member/customer service
• Skill with independent problem-solving
• Intermediate mathematical skills
• Ability to communicate successfully with members and outside parties
• Ability to express oneself clearly and articulately both orally and in writing
• Ability to handle multiple deadlines
• Ability to exercise tact and responsibility with handling confidential information
• Ability to work with direct supervision of daily activities
