About the Job
The Communications Intern joins a Corporate Communications team focused on enhancing the Worthington Enterprises* brand with internal and external stakeholders.
This position assists in the areas of employee engagement, research, content development, social media and media relations. The ideal candidate has excellent writing and communication skills who can easily juggle multiple assignments at once and can effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
The Communications intern participates in our company-wide Summer Internship Program that helps interns develop professional skills through on-the-job experience. During this 12-week program, interns spend approximately 80 percent of their time completing a business-driven project. These assignments could range from generating ideas for product improvement, to creating new processes, to developing a standardized playbook for a specific role within the Company. Upon graduation, each intern will present their project to their manager, mentors and members of senior leadership.
The interns will spend the remainder of their time receiving additional on-the-job experience and classroom learning. Classes will feature topics from general business etiquette, to resume writing, interviewing and presenting with confidence.
In keeping with Our Philosophy, the program will also feature a community service component.
Interns are based at our company headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, where they are encouraged to maximize their experience by working in the office at minimum three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Manages communication project
- Supports Communications team as assigned
- Monitors Worthington Enterprises media coverage and social media presence
- Tracks and reports on campaign performance
Desired Experience
- Excellent research and writing skills a must
- Computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Familiarity with LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
- Ability to juggle several assignments at once, to work independently to achieve completion
- Comfortable engaging internally and externally as a member of the Worthington Enterprises team
- Current sophomore or junior working toward a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or public relations or related field
*In 2022, Worthington Industries announced plans to separate its Steel Processing business and create two standalone public companies. The separation may occur as early as December 2023 at which time Worthington Industries will become Worthington Enterprises and include the Company's current Building Products, Consumer Products and Sustainable Energy Solutions segments.
