Job Summary:
Responsible for the management of MRC's Community Employment program. Duties include supervision of assigned staff, budget monitoring, partner relations, assuring job development activities are carried out in accordance with evidence-based practices of Individual Placement and Support and Customized Employment, and that successful program outcomes are achieved. The Unit Manager provides strategy and innovation to help provide necessary opportunities for the department to ensure success and development within the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, direction, and feedback to assigned staff to include expectations and fulfillment of agency mission, on-going coaching to improve performance, completion of performance reviews and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Participate in the agency leadership team, as requested, and provide necessary strategic feedback that enhances program development, assists in strategic planning, develops program budgets, and drives successful outcomes for targeted program and agency goals.
- Coordinate services provided to ensure that quality standards for service provision are maintained, and customer requirements are met.
- Assure appropriate staffing levels through the selection, onboarding and retention of employees. Orient, train and develop staff for positions under supervision.
- Ensure community employment policies and procedures are written, reviewed, and revised as needed.
- Provide oversight on necessary program data collection and reporting systems, ensure successful results based on program goals.
- Ensure compliance with all CARF accreditation and IPS Fidelity standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Medicaid, Department of Labor, OSHA, ADA and other local, state and federal regulations as well as MRC policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with other units in MRC and other agencies that serve MRC clients, raise issues, advocate, and problem solve to achieve the best possible results for MRC clients.
- In coordination with the Director, develop program budget and monitor revisions and expenditures and make necessary operations adjustments to ensure departmental adherence to annual operating budget.
- Determine and enforce performance standards; collect critical data and compile on a regular basis for use in operational decision making. Measure results by determining performance indicators, determining critical data, and collecting data on a predetermined basis.
- Act as an MRC client advocate, providing leadership to assure that MRC clients are moving toward maximum integration, productivity, and independence. Make recommendations for program development and additional business/revenue opportunities.
- Inform the Program Director of staff concerns, problems, issues, and failure to obtain results and take corrective action in consultation with the Program Director as appropriate.
- Provide oversight of all job placements to assure customer satisfaction.
- Represent agency in employment related meetings with funding and partnering agencies.
- Responsible for working with leadership team to explore and develop additional clients, partnerships, and collaborations within the community to ensure success within the program and agency.
- Ensure the rights of individuals served are protected in accordance with the Michigan Mental Health Code and agency policies. Complete incident reports as required.
- Actively support and be knowledgeable about 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices, 2) person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process with the individual who defines his or her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals and 3) a trauma informed culture to aid clients in their recovery process.
- Completes other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem solving, planning and organizational skills. Must have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge or lived experiences with behavioral and mental health system are strongly desired.
- Analytical skills necessary to read and understand budgets, policies, procedures, and various reports required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Criminal records, driving and recipient rights screening required.
- Valid Michigan driver's license, good driving record and the availability of licensed, insured vehicle for use on the job required.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a business or human services related field and/or 5 years combined experience providing services to individuals with disabilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of one year's experience in a leadership position required. Three years preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to tolerate prolonged standing.
- Must be able to squat, reach, lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Physical ability to operate a computer keyboard and general office equipment as needed to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Physical ability to work in front of and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to meet intervention certification requirements.
- Must be able to meet CPR and first aid certification requirements.
