Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Boat Manufacturing Composites Manager. This position will work side by side with our dedicated Industrial Engineer team to improve processes and flow through the Gelcoat, Lamination, and Patch & Polish departments. The right candidate has an eye for details, can get things done through others, and can maintain the quality expected with a Nautique Boat.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manages operations within the assigned area, effectively utilizing resources (people, equipment, and materials) to ensure the safe and timely completion of production schedules or departmental work. This includes coordinating team leaders and supervisors, maintaining time and production records, and organizing job assignments for department employees.
• Responsible for safety, quality, production, metrics, standard operating procedures (SOP), administrative tasks, and departmental improvements.
• Communicates production responsibilities to supervisors and employees, focusing on fostering positive employee relationships and promoting their professional development.
• Collaborates directly with other product managers, supervisors, Quality Control, and Product Design and Development teams to achieve departmental and company-wide goals.
• Works with upstream and downstream customers to ensure their requirements are met effectively.
• Works closely with the Manufacturing Engineers to enhance processes and streamline workflow in the composite department.
• Ensures compliance with preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and equipment maintenance.
• Maintains overall quality levels and on-time delivery schedules of the team.
• Manages employee activities, including performance evaluation and discipline, overall performance management, training and development, problem resolution, motivating workers to achieve goals, and effective communication with associates.
• Maintains a safe working environment in the area, continually promoting safety awareness among associates and enforcing safety rules when necessary.
• Inspects production and departmental work to verify adherence to specifications and directs adjustments as needed.
• Studies production and departmental work schedules, estimating employee hour requirements for work completion. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production and departmental schedules and goals.
• Focuses on continuous process improvement and enhancing departmental efficiency. This includes making recommendations to improve production methods, enhance equipment performance, improve overall work quality, optimize working conditions, and maximize equipment utilization.
• Actively participates with the entire Operation Team to support strategic plans and implement initiatives.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering.
• 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, demonstrating comprehensive industry knowledge and expertise.
• 5+ years of experience specifically working with Gelcoat/Lamination, accompanied by in-depth knowledge of the chemicals involved in the process.
• Experience with both open and closed molding processes involving fiberglass.
• Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in process improvement, problem-solving, with a consistent track record of effectively identifying issues, troubleshooting, and providing practical and innovative solutions.
• CCT or other certification through ACMA.
• Good working knowledge of Quality Systems and Tools.
• OEM experience with high-end products.
• Industrial Engineering experience a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
• Must be able to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.

• Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record (subject to MVR)
