Director – Outside Plant (OSP) Construction (Telecom)
The Director - Outside Plant Construction leads a multi-disciplined OSP workforce to complete the construction of complex OSP network deployment projects in the San Antonio, Austin and other Central Texas markets. This requires a broad knowledge of outside plant design/construction practices and standards for aerial, buried, and underground facilities. Excellent communications skills, positive attitude, excellent work ethics, strong customer service and interpersonal skills are also a must for this position.
Responsibilities
- Motivate, mentor, and provide positive direction to management and non-management team.
- Develop new revenue sources to meet and exceed P&L targets.
- Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner, resolving any issues affecting project scope, quality, risk, and timeline. Track costs and improve processes in addition to creating and managing contingency plans for all projects.
- Responsible for job safety, quality, schedule and regulatory compliance required daily on construction site or project office.
- Review and comprehend all construction documents, plans, specifications, change orders, bid documents, permits and geotechnical reports.
- Verify and certify all quantities, complete to date or percentages of completion to assist accounting with the preparation, forecasting and submittal of accurate monthly progress and partial as well as final billings.
Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field and/or equivalent experience
- 15+ years of technical and management work related experience in the telecommunications industry with emphasis on OSP Construction, CATV, project management and direct customer interface.
- PMP credential is a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of buried, aerial and UG cable facilities and their associated construction, communications outside development process, permitting processes, utility coordination, bill of material development, civil construction, quality assurance practices and OSHA safety compliance practices.
- Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills in both written and oral forms (bilingual in Spanish is a plus)
- Experience directly managing a team. Project management experience is required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software suite required.
- Familiarity with Plan and Profile work prints preferred as well as other standard telecommunications prints.
- Familiarity and experience with smartsheet, Microsoft project and other project management software.
- Ability to read, analyze and write business correspondence/proposals.
- Possess the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks at once.
- Extensive knowledge of approved practices, procedures, tools, and materials used in telecom line construction work.
- Ability to apply logical principles and thinking, to solve issues and make effective decisions, for positive resolutions.
