Construction Inspector Position Title: Construction Inspector
Department: DPW - Engineering Employment Status: UFCW Administration,
Non-Exempt, Full-Time Salary: Grade A09, Step 01 Starting at $26.06 per
hour Licenses/Certifications: Class D Driver's License SUMMARY The City
of Chicopee's DPW - Engineering Division is seeking a Construction
Inspector with strong engineering skills in the office as well as in the
field to be responsible for inspections and supervision of construction
and/or repair and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, sewer, and draining
systems for compliance with specifications and conformance to good
construction practices. This individual will work with contractors and
the City Engineer when work does not conform to specifications or
accepted practices so that corrective action will be taken, assists the
Department by coordinating the activities of contractors and municipal
personnel, review and track permits issued by the Department,
investigate public requests/complaints, and make recommendations action
to be taken. Performs duties required by DPW Superintendent during
weather emergencies which may include overtime. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
Assists in the planning and organization of "in-house" construction
projects. Performs general engineering calculations for highway geometry
including but not limited to volumes, areas, and grades, etc. Determines
feasibility of proposed designs through site inspection, discussions,
and review of available data. Assists the Department with the
development and coordinates the implementation of traffic control plans
in support of highway construction and maintenance projects. Computes
and plots the major phases of a field survey including the balancing of
closed traverses and level circuits, reconciling them with the
baselines, layouts, and level datum. Review and track permits issued by
the Engineering Department and coordinates the permit process with the
permit application. Assists with preparation of bid specifications for
materials used by DPW. Coordinates construction projects with the
appropriate State agencies and/or private contractors hired by the city
to perform construction services. Performs all related duties as
directed by the Superintendent of Public Works, City Engineering, and/or
other supervising authority. Other duties as assigned per the full job
description. QUALIFICATIONS Associate degree in Civil Engineering, or
closely related discipline, with a minimum of three (3) years'
experience in public works construction inspection - Required A
combination of education and practical experience may be considered. MA
Class D Driver's License - Required Knowledge of OSHA regulations and
requirements. Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal & State
regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred),
