Salary: $25.50 per hour Negotiable DOE
Location: 971 W Wetmore Road
Job Summary:
To perform all aspects of consumer lending underwriting for the credit union. Duties include but not limited to:
• Underwrite loan applications in a timely and efficient manner.
• Make sound credit decisions utilizing current risk parameters established by management.
• Mitigate risks associated with credit applications through effective use of applicable stipulations.
• Provide explanations for declined credit for use with Adverse Action notifications.
• Review loan applications for possible cross sell opportunities.
• Identify possible fraud, risk concerns, or loan policy exceptions during underwriting.
• Communicate lending decisions with consumers when questions arise.
• Conduct introductory training and mentoring for new staff.
• Accurately process verification of income, employment, and residence as necessary.
• Assist other departments and branches with lending and underwriting related questions/issues.
• Direct point of contact for department staff for questions, assistance, and problem resolution.
• Assist department manager with projects or assigned tasks.
Compliance - Ensure that all actions associated with consumer lending functions are within established credit union policies and procedures and compliant with all applicable law and regulations.
Service - Providing the highest level of service to members, staff, and business partners. Provide support to other branches and departments.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Review and underwrite loan applications submitted by consumers. Applying credit union policy and procedure along with current risk parameters. Utilize counter-offer strategies as applicable. Identify potential risk red flags to be addressed and resolved. Accurately document reasons for decline to be used in Adverse Action Notices. Communicate with consumers who have questions regarding a loan decision. Identify policy exceptions. Review submitted applications for possible cross sell opportunities. Properly document underwriting activities in the loan origination system. Work with dealership and refinance partners to explain underwriting decisions. Accurately process verification of income, residence, and employment as needed.
- Provide training, mentoring, coaching and direct support to department staff.
- Assist other departments/branches with indirect lending related questions or issues.
- Perform duties assigned to the Loan Contact Group when assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
Experience: Minimum two years of similar or related experience.
Education: Equivalent to a high school education.
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others that is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Outside contacts become important in fostering sound relationships with other business partners or individuals.
Other Skills:
Must have strong understanding of and ability to perform consumer lending related functions within the credit union. Must have strong knowledge of industry regulations such as Reg B, D, E, Z, CC, DD, FDCPA, MLA. Must be an effective written and oral communication skills. Able to operate a 10-key calculator, computer keyboard, and basic computer software/systems.
