Job Summary:
As the Controller you will be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and supporting the company's strategic financial planning. You will play a key role in driving financial success by providing actionable insights and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations. This position requires a proactive leader with a strong background in financial management, preferably within a distribution or equipment-related industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Manage and supervise the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings.
- Prepare and present financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports to senior management.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop, implement, and monitor annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Analyze variances between actual results and budgeted figures, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, accounting standards (GAAP), and tax requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.
- Cost Management:
- Monitor and control costs related to inventory, operations, and overhead.
- Collaborate with department heads to identify and implement cost-saving measures.
- Inventory and Asset Management:
- Oversee the accounting for inventory and fixed assets, ensuring accurate tracking and valuation.
- Work closely with the operations team to optimize inventory management and turnover.
- Strategic Financial Planning:
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in the development and execution of long-term financial strategies in alignment with company goals.
- Leadership and Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall company objectives and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Technology and Systems:
- Ensure the effective use of financial software and systems, recommending improvements and upgrades as needed.
- Leverage data analytics and reporting tools to enhance financial transparency and decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Experience in the distribution, wholesale, or landscape machinery industry is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with [specific software used by the company] is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Compensation:
Target base salary of $175,000 - $200,000. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
