CONTROLLER
Reporting to the Director Operational Finance, The Controller or designate is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities of the Finance Department at the facility.
- Direct and monitor the performance of all accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and maintenance of the General Ledger
- Prepare month-end and year-end financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the company's accounting policies. Present actual results along with appropriate variance analysis and make recommendations to senior management
- Review the processing of payroll and all related activities
- Direct weekly/monthly reconciliation of the bank accounts where applicable.
- Prepare and develop the annual Budget with input from operations, and participate in annual budget review meeting
- Prepare the year end audit file, liaising with external auditors
- Manage commercial issues with appropriate personnel.
- Direct customer pricing changes and retro billings and ensure that the pricing database is correct and up to date (for manufacturing locations).
- Full plant Income Statement and Balance Sheet responsibility inclusive of reconciliations, review and variance analysis.
- Support of local plant management inclusive of communication and reporting/analysis of operational metrics. This would include providing financial statements, review of weekly operational metrics and variance analysis.
- Participate in the review of plant income statement forecasting by account and communication of recommendations to senior management.
- Effectively mentor and manage direct report(s)
- Review and approve G/L coding on purchase requisitions where applicable.
- Promote an atmosphere of team work at all times.
- Ensure that a clean and safe work environment is always maintained.
- Coordinate implementation and maintenance of MRP system.
- Make recommendations regarding accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
- Prepare capital purchase approvals request along with supporting documentation.
- Verify savings on cost reduction projects.
- Complete any other duties as assigned
- Ensure that sufficient resources are available for the Finance Department including training, safety requirements, personnel, work instructions, procedures, and related tools.
- Assist in any way to any employee, necessary to promote a successful operation emphasizing customer satisfaction
- Ensure all employees receive proper training and understand all job tasks
- Completes other duties assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a post-secondary degree in business or accounting, or possess equivalent experience
- Accounting designation (C.A., C.P.A., C.M.A., C.G.A.) preferred
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have at least 10 years' experience (with 5 of these years in a Manufacturing environment) in accounting with a minimum of 2 years in a Supervisory capacity
- Strong knowledge of standard costing principles
- Experience working with ERP systems
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced level computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills in written and verbal formats
- Sound financial and business insights
- Ability to perform well in high pressure situations
- Be a positive and ethical role model to employees in all business dealings
- Capable of independent travel to, from and within designated regions
