Position Summary
The Controller will direct and oversee the financial activities of the corporation, direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth. This position oversees the accounting, purchasing, billing, budget preparation, financial planning and analysis, and audit functions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Direct oversight of cash positions and cash flows for a rapidly growing startup business.
Leadership of investor relations and capital investment management with electric cooperative broadband parent companies.
Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.
Compares sales and profit projections to actual figures and budgeted expenses to actual expenses; makes or oversees any necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.
Definition of company financial KPIs
Analyzes purchasing and financial operations to identify potential efficiencies.
Works with the CEO and other executives to coordinate planning and establish short and long-term financial priorities for DSN.
Studies long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth in sales and market share.
Oversees investment of funds and works with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for expansion.
Establishes a complete command of DSN financial portfolio and presents relevant information to DSN Board of Directors and other parties as needed.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS).
Management of grant applications, awards, grant program finances and telecommunications regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have excellent management and supervisory skills, analytical and organizational skills; must be proficient in database and accounting computer application systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The combination of education and experience should be significant.
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. The functions of performing this job include prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. This is a hybrid position.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
Ten (10) years of accounting experience.
Three (3) years of supervisory accounting experience.
Experience within the telecommunications industry and/or with telecommunications asset management.
Desired Qualifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
Experience with electric cooperatives and/or utilities.
Experience in a startup environment.
