Controller
As our Controller, you will play a key role in overseeing the financial operations that support Vessel's mission to reinvent multifamily housing. Your contributions will directly impact our strategic growth and operational efficiency as we innovate in the housing space. This position is based on-site at our NYC HQ. You will work closely with our finance and operations teams to ensure financial excellence and accountability across the organization.
WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THE ROLE
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and budget variances.
- Lead the development and management of Vessel's annual budget and forecasts, providing financial analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls, implementing policies and procedures as needed.
- Manage audits and collaborate with external auditors and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
- Oversee treasury functions, including cash flow management, banking relationships, and investment strategies.
- Drive the implementation of financial systems, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations and product development, to support business growth and innovation.
- Provide strategic financial recommendations to senior management based on analysis and projections.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification required.
- 8-10 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Experience in real estate, construction, or a product-focused company preferred.
- Startup experience is a plus, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools; experience with ERP systems is a bonus.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
- The base salary is around $175,000 annually, depending on experience and location. Additional forms of compensation, such as equity and bonuses, are included in the total package.
