The CMM Programmer will develop, edit, maintain, and improve the functions and operations surrounding the Coordinate Measuring Machines within Midland Manufacturing. This position will act as critical Production and Engineering support, and must have an in depth understanding of Metrology, GD&T, and CAD. Capability to program across several languages is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Responsibilities:
Develop, edit, maintain, and improve CMM programs related to CNC setup, PPAP, Engineering Evaluations, etc. High level of competency required
Assess, develop, and improve the fixturing related to the CMM
Take part in continuous improvement efforts to improve efficiency and accuracy for inspections
Interpret drawings and verify requirements as applicable to production / PPAP parts. Communicate the results to the appropriate people in support of Midland production.
Conduct First Article Inspections, Process Capability Studies, Random Sampling, Custom Evaluations, etc. using a combination of metrology equipment
Complete accurate documentation of inspection and process results using Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, Sharepoint, and Oracle.
Recommend and specify instrumentation, calibration and gauging needs
Actively participate in defining strategies to meet quality objectives and in system reviews within the team
When needed, utilize material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or reach stackers to move product
Problem-solve individually or as part of a group as job duties require
Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled and may be required to work overtime
Qualifications/Requirements:
Associates Degree or equivalent required (Formal Training in CMM programming acceptable)
10+ years prior experience in quality inspection required
5+ years programming CMMs required (knowledge of PC-DMIS is preferred)
Desired Characteristics, Competence and Capabilities:
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of GD&T, and be able to apply principles when programming and conducting inspections. Capability to train peers preferred.
Proficient at programming from CAD models and directly from the product
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Team-oriented individual who is willing to learn, possess active listening skills, demonstrates patience will coworkers, and is willing to continuously improve
Capable of learning to use software unrelated to the CMM – including but not limited to, Smartsheet, Oracle, Sharepoint, etc.
Willing to offer options and take direction
Results oriented and driven individual
Knowledge in machining and manufacturing processes
Capable of leading CI projects related to the CMM
Ability to use calipers, plug & thread gages, micrometers and other measurement devices
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is continuously standing, repetitively grasping and repetitively using fine manipulation with the hands.
May be frequently required to walk, bend, squat, or twist
May be required to repetitively push or pull frequently up to 20 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds with assistance.
This position is performed in a production/quality office environment, and as required by job duties, may also require work in a shop environment.
Team members in this position may be exposed to loud operating machinery, varied temperatures and may be exposed to chemicals and vapors.
Work Arrangement : On-site in Skokie, IL
Salary Range (based on market analysis as well as experience): $28.00 - $36.00
