Summary:
The Corporate Trade Compliance Specialist ensures adherence to Trade Compliance policies and procedures, supporting daily import and export activities while maintaining the accuracy of compliance documents and data.
The Corporate Trade Compliance Specialist ensures adherence to Trade Compliance policies and procedures, supporting daily import and export activities while maintaining the accuracy of compliance documents and data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and address discrepancies in Customs documentation for imported and exported goods.
- Verify, prepare, and process brokerage invoices for Accounts Payable.
- Serve as a liaison between customs brokers, service providers, government agencies, and internal teams to provide trade compliance support and resolve issues.
- Identify inefficiencies in trade compliance processes and implement long-term solutions.
- Ensure compliance with CBSA, CBP, and other foreign customs regulations.
- Lead the development of the company's import compliance program in line with trade, solar, and contracting regulations.
- Assist in managing import licenses, product classifications, and exemptions for international business activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, sales, supply chain) to ensure consistent import compliance practices.
- Develop and deliver training sessions to increase awareness of import regulations across the company.
- Design and implement audit programs to identify compliance risks and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Act as the key compliance contact for government audits and inquiries related to exports, leading responses and investigations.
- Stay updated on import control laws and regulatory changes, advising on potential impacts to the company.
- Manage inquiries and ensure trade compliance is maintained in import, export, and supply chain processes.
- Maintain the import database, updating parts and relevant data (USMCA/CUSMA, anti-dumping duties, OGD data).
- Analyze export documentation for discrepancies and advise on necessary revisions.
- Review and verify Canadian and US brokerage invoices, requesting post-entry adjustments when needed.
- Communicate with brokers, carriers, CBSA, CBP, and service providers to resolve documentation issues and ensure clearance.
- Support month-end/year-end procedures, including organizing data and processing duty/tax payments.
- Review controlled exports, apply for export permits/licenses, and ensure compliance with export control regulations.
- Ensure adherence to ISO 9000 Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications:
- At least 8 years of experience in trade compliance across various industries; solar industry experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Trade compliance or Customs (CBSA) certification preferred.
Skills/Traits:
- Strong technical aptitude, especially in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Ability to navigate complex policies, processes, and interpersonal dynamics.
Salary: $80,000 - $110,000/yr
