Overview
Utah State University Extension is seeking multiple outgoing and positive individuals to serve as Community Liaisons responsible for supporting programming and community engagement efforts as part of a federally funded substance misuse prevention project in Salt Lake, Box Elder, Carbon, and Emery Counties. The primary role of these positions is to facilitate project involvement of population subgroups within their respective counties, which may include people in rural areas, Hispanic and Latino/a/e people, Native American or tribal people, Pacific Islanders, and/or youth and families from refugee populations. Community Liaisons will work to promote educational workshops, in-person and virtual programs, and other project services while identifying and reducing participation barriers such as language and transportation for underserved subgroups.
We encourage applicants who are from, or have connections to, one of the population subgroups mentioned above to apply. The number of hours worked each week and work schedule will vary based on project phase and applicant availability but is estimated to average to around four hours per week across the year. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary, and applicants must have their own transportation. This is a non-benefited position.
Responsibilities
* Represent the project and engage in community outreach in the designated project county by attending community events, meeting with stakeholders, and conducting other networking activities, especially with minority and traditionally underserved population subgroups (i.e., targeted subgroups).
* Help the project team tailor marketing materials to be culturally appropriate and relevant to targeted community subgroups.
* Promote youth and family workshops, youth and family programs, and other project services to the broader community and the targeted population subgroups.
* Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing youth and family workshops and other educational events in designated project county.
* Build partnerships with law enforcement, recovery community, schools, juvenile justice systems, and other relevant partners in designated project county.
* Identify participation barriers experienced by targeted subgroups and work with project team to offer resources that mitigate access issues and encourage participation.
* Communicate regularly with county project coordinator.
* Attend monthly project team meetings virtually or in-person.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* Experience conducting community outreach and developing and maintaining community partnerships.
* Experience working with diverse populations, which may include work with individuals from different racial groups, ethnic groups, cultural groups, gender identities, sexual orientations, and ideologies.
