Job Summary:
The Café/Kitchen Associate performs routine and specialized assignments in the hospital’s kitchen, cafeteria, patient tray line, and special event catering while following all Mason Health policies and procedures. This position works in collaboration with leadership to ensure quality patient care is consistently provided through accurate food preparation, record keeping, diligent food handling and kitchen safety practices and excellent customer service.
Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepares and cooks food following standardized recipes, pars and patient dietary standards, while following accurate portion control and meeting department standards for quality, appearance/presentation and taste.
- Participates in cooking, baking and preparing of made-to-order items requiring assembly, grill, and specific ingredients.
- Records food temperatures at required intervals during the food preparation process.
- Cleans, slices/cuts, assembles, counts and portions food items and ingredients.
- Provides exceptional customer service while serving and/or delivering food to patients, staff, and guests and when serving as a point-of-sale cashier.
- Complies with all food safety procedures, health and sanitary regulations governing the handling, cleaning, preparing, serving, storing, labeling, dating and rotation of food and food products.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment by following department safety standards and procedures including proper knife handling, proper assembly, operation/use and cleaning (washing and sanitizing) of kitchen equipment (machines, tools, utensils, dishes, pots/pans, etc.), food prep surfaces, serving areas and other kitchen/cafe areas.
- Supports accurate department inventory by counting, ordering, receiving, stocking and following department procedures/policies for writing off expired/spoiled inventory.
- Accurately records and prepares patient meal orders/trays in accordance with prescribed dietary restrictions.
- Promptly and discretely delivers and retrieves patient meal orders/trays and floor stock to patient care areas.
- Performs all essential functions and assigned tasks of each station in a timely, economical and efficient manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- One (1) year of food service experience or culinary education preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
- Current State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Workers permit
