CULTURAL ORIENTATION VOLUNTEER ORGANIZER - Troy, Michigan
The person we seek will serve as member of the Samaritas Preferred Communities Program in partnership with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), assisting with the developing Cultural Orientation (CO) program for Samaritas including recruiting and training new community volunteers to support and expand CO and refugee resettlement services. We are looking for someone with skills in event planning & organizing, community partnership development and project organizing & implementation.

This position has a pay rate of $22.00 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the recruitment of community volunteers to fill roles as CO speakers, ESL classroom assistants, interpreters, mentors, instructors and tutors.
- Conduct community outreach and attend community activities and events to enhance networking opportunities that support recruitment efforts.
- Assist in providing structured CO training to volunteers. May be required to create training programs and materials.
- Provide daily guidance to CO volunteers, communicating program and Samaritas expectations.
- Coordinate CO volunteer schedules. Track CO volunteer hours and individual hours, including orientation and on-going training and submit to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with data collection, analysis and reporting of CO program intervention and outcomes.
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
- High school diploma or currently enrolled in a GED program per LIRS/Refugee AmeriCorps program contract requirements (written declaration signed under penalty of law
- Some college coursework preferred.
Experience
- Knowledge and/or experience with a refugee resettlement program.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work in a diverse workplace.
- Ability to read, write and speak English; ability to read, write and speak Arabic preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated cultural competencies. Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural context.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional, effective business relationships.
- Per funding entity:
- Educational award upon successful completion of one-year program.
Additional Work Requirements
- Automobile travel required.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record; reliable ongoing personal transportation suitable for safely transporting clients; current automobile registration and proof of automobile insurance.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Stands and moves about indoors and outdoors.
- Stoops, bends, twists, and frequently lifts supplies up to 25 lbs.
