About the Job
The Custodian I provides custodial and support services for all OMSI facilities, activities, and events. Custodial staff serve to help ensure that OMSI provides a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all guests and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Custodial Duties:
- Performs general custodial services, utilizing best practice for safety, efficiency, and environmental concerns;
- Cleans and stocks restrooms on a daily basis, ensuring proper sanitary conditions and good appearance;
- Responsible for waste disposal throughout the OMSI campus, including interior and exterior spaces;
- Supports OMSI departments with general custodial services.
Working Conditions:
- This position is non-exempt, paid hourly;
- This position is regular full-time scheduled for 40 hours/week;
- Requires working onsite at the museum location;
- Scheduled to work a five day work week; schedule expectations can be discussed with the Custodial Operations Leadership Team to provide flexibility and address museum needs;
- This position is scheduled to work Wednesday - Sunday, 2:30pm - 11pm;
- Requires working on weekends, holidays, special events, and/or evenings as scheduled.
- Physical Demands: 5% sitting, 75% standing, 20% lifting/carrying/pushing 50 lbs.;
- Vision Demands include:
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches of less)
- Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
- Depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships)
- Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus)
- Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
- Environmental Demands include:
- Wet or humid conditions (non-weather)
- Extreme heat (non-weather)
- Outdoor weather conditions
- Work near moving mechanical parts
- Work in high, precarious places
- Fumes or airborne particles
- Toxic or caustic chemicals
- Risk of electric shock
- Noise Levels include:
- Quiet (examples: library, private office)
- Moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
- Loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment)
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assists with setup and teardown of OMSI events and assist with office moves;
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by Facilities management.

- Custodial Skills:
- Working knowledge with operating and maintaining custodial tools;
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve custodial-related issues;
- Ability to learn and follow safety and protocol regulations.
PREFERENCES:
- Proficient or native fluency in a second language (non-English).
