Data Engineer
This is a greenfield opportunity to help us build a scalable operating platform. As the Data Engineer you will build and support company-wide data warehousing solutions, as well as ETL pipelines for efficient data integration/transformation. You will work hand-in-hand with business stakeholders as well as systems, software, operational technology, and IT team members to define the required data needs of systems and effective tools to meet those needs. The successful candidate will be an experienced, inquisitive, quick learner who will bridge the business needs and the data solutions. You’ll be knowledgeable about database best practices, tooling options, and experienced in building ETL pipelines. Additional responsibilities include monitoring systems for quick bug fixes, managing mid-size projects, and contributing to the maturing of our use of data as a company asset.
Responsibilities:
- (30%) Design, manage, optimize, and secure database systems, ensuring high availability and performance for both transactional and analytical workloads.
- (30%) Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support data integration and analysis across various sources.
- (20%) Collaborate with stakeholders, analysts, and software engineers to define data requirements and develop data models that meet business needs.
- (10%) Monitor database performance, implement backup and recovery strategies, and troubleshoot database-related issues.
- (10%) Attain a high re-use of technology while driving process standardization and simplification.
Skills and Competencies
- Extensive knowledge and experience with implementing data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Expert in SQL and relational databases, as well as NoSQL databases.
- Strong experience with ETL tools and data pipeline frameworks.
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, GCP, AWS)
- Familiarity with data modeling techniques and best practices for data governance.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to assess requirements and design the appropriate architecture for the solution.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Exceptional communication, documentation and organizational skills.
- Strong track record in managing concurrent tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, changing, demanding environment with quality results.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assist with problem solving and business rule definition.
- Handles ambiguity without losing focus and can perform with minimal direction
Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering and database administration
- Experience with database performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines
- Familiarity with programing languages, specifically Python, C#, and JavaScript
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills
- Must be a strong collaborator, team player, and individual contributor
- Clear ability to apply continuous improvement and technology to business processes preferred
