The Disney Music Group (DMG) is the music hub for TWDC, encompassing all aspects of music commercialization and marketing: recorded music (Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing, and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music both physically and digitally, and also licenses music throughout the world in various forms of media including television, print, gaming, and consumer product.
Job Summary
As a member of DMG’s Data & Analytics team, the Data Science Manger will develop advanced capabilities and tools that enable deep understanding of how content, marketing, and distribution strategies impact product performance. This role focuses on turning research into practical business solutions, transforming data into insights that guide key decisions across the organization. The ideal candidate for this role brings expertise in behavioral segmentation, cross-platform measurement, and statistical modeling within the media and entertainment landscape
Responsibilities
+ Lead development of analytical frameworks to address business problems across recorded music, publishing, and concerts. Design experiments, measurement methodologies, and algorithms. Prototype solutions for implementation in analytic pipelines or tools
+ Develop decision support tools that assist stakeholders in evaluating business opportunities. Build models (descriptive, predictive, prescriptive) to quantify opportunity size, risks, rewards and analyze trade-offs among strategies, tactics, and environments
+ Develop operational metrics to assess the health of brands, products, and campaigns. Apply advanced analytics techniques (data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning) to build out in-depth knowledge of success drivers, their interactions and contribution to overall business performance
+ Build a holistic picture of audiences by analyzing transaction-level user behavior data to identify patterns, uncover opportunities, and create a common understanding of listener preferences and engagement
+ Partner with Technology teams on data projects, contributing to solution discovery, design, build and QA
+ Closely collaborate with the DMG Data & Analytics team, providing mentorship to more junior team members. Partner with various stakeholders across the company
Basic Qualifications:
+ Minimum 7+ years of data science experience
+ Proven experience in developing statistical models and analyses for business use cases in an industry setting. Demonstrated expertise in applying supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, including clustering, regression, and classification
+ Experience with causal inference methods
+ Ability to draw insights and conclusion from data to inform model development and business decisions
+ Experience manipulating large-scale datasets and interpreting data trends from multiple disparate sources
+ Proven track record in managing and executing full-cycle analytics projects
+ Hands on experience with SQL and numerical computing languages such as PySpark/Python, R
+ Experience data mining within distributed systems such as Databricks, Snowflake, Google BigQuery
+ Proficient with data exploration and visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, DOMO
+ Strong time management with ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience creating analytical software solutions to automate, scale, and integrate data analysis
+ Familiarity with music streaming services (Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, YouTube), social media platforms (TikTok, FB/Instagram, X) and emerging technologies (digital assistants/voice)
+ A passion for music and entertainment industry data
Required Education
+ Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field including Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field. Master’s degree preferred
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $149,300.00 - $200,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
