The Position
Kaufman, Hall & Associates, LLC is seeking a Data Validation Analyst for our Revenue and Operations Improvement practice. In this role, the individual will be responsible for processing large sets of data and completing extensive data validation on a reoccurring basis to support the Outpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement (“CDI”) team.
The data analysis and validation are the first steps in supporting the project team and the clients served, ranging from large academic medical centers to integrated health systems to small community hospitals. In this role, the individual will be responsible for maintaining data organization, completing the necessary import steps into the software applications, creating data validation reports, and utilizing critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and resolve regular data discrepancies. Troubleshooting of discrepancies will require the ability to independently understand data relationships and develop queries with support the findings of cause and relationships. In addition to supporting the Outpatient CDI team, there will be cross function tasks to support the broader technology team and possibly of service line teams as needed.
The Data Validation Analyst role serves as a subject matter expert with strong communication skills to interpret validation findings independently and collaboratively as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have impeccable people skills and be able to gracefully navigate complex environments with multiple stakeholders. This role also requires one to exhibit sound judgment with regular troubleshooting, while also prioritizing ongoing tasks, and continuously maintaining attention to detail. Additionally, this role requires flexibility of daily tasks as priorities and timelines can change in real time. Candidates for this role are eager to learn and grow with the technology team. Additionally, in this role the individual will be collaborative with effective communication across various project teams. The successful candidate will be ambitious and self-directed with a passion for data analysis, database engineering, and data management.
This individual will have strong Microsoft SQL database experience and is comfortable working with large, complex datasets (healthcare claim-level detail background is preferred) and be responsible for data import (ETL), report building, database design, data modeling, developing SQL queries, and database code tuning and optimization. This position performs data management and application functions, including data cleansing, analyzing, reviewing, evaluating, implementing, and maintenance of the necessary data sets which includes hundreds of data elements related to financial and clinical information. Additionally, this individual will be required to as well as writing and developing reports to assist in the monitoring and measurement of the client results. Experience with Tableau, SSRS, Power BI or similar data visualization tools would also be beneficial. Examples of daily tasks include:

- Function as data validation analyst on the CDI team, supporting multiple clients and coordinating work with the data and infrastructure teams.
- Develop summary and claim level analyses utilizing hospital claims data.
- Regularly collaborates with the Outpatient CDI team to process data for all active clients.
- Works closely with clients and internal groups to support client requests and issues through consultation, analysis, and execution.
- Revises existing systems and procedures to resolve discrepancies and improve data management and storage.
- Prepares reports to support OP CDI activities including variance analyses, volume trending, resource utilization, and other key metrics.
- Consistently troubleshoots discrepancies and confidentially illustrates findings to project team members.
- Using business intelligence tools, assists with development or enhancement of reports to support initiatives tracking and reporting in a clear and straightforward manner.
- Collaboration with Project Managers to prepare quarterly dashboards.
- Becomes an expert in ChargeConnect, OP CDI proprietary software, and analyzes data and assists in the development of reports and recommendations.
- Revises existing systems and procedures to correct deficiencies and maintain more effective data handling, conversion, input/output requirements, and storage.
- Collaborate with technology team to design and develop modern, secure, and performant data ingestion solutions.
- Collaborate with non-technical team members and leadership on a regular basis.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with all associates and business contacts and promote a strong sense of teamwork.
- In addition, you will be asked to bring creativity to this role as we continue to support our Outpatient CDI offerings and continually seek to improve our current data model and output.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL MIs.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with transact and object-oriented SQL programming.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and manipulate complex data sets, SQL databases and large data files.
- Experience with database design with well-honed SQL skills, the ability to create relational data models, create and adjust complex views and stored procedures, tune database performance, and perform quality control testing using SQL.
- Experience in performance tuning of queries, using SQL Profiler, evaluating execution plans, and other methods.
- Experience working with data visualization tools. Tableau preferred.
- Ability to build and maintain effective and positive relationships with team members.
- Effective and proactive technical documentation practices.
- Ability to multi-task, and appropriately prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to identify good opportunities for automation or orchestration.
- Excellent conceptual and analytical skills, organizational skills, critical thinking, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent self-learner with high aptitude to acquire and learn new skills.

- Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and home office settings, and routinely uses standard office equipment.
