Job Description:
As a Database Systems Engineer, focusing on SQL Server Databases, you will engineer and support database systems including analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, and upgrades. Applying established architectural and engineering best practices, you will take charge of complex systems to achieve strategic objectives in the areas of solving for client, infrastructure availability and automation, as well as a strong focus on database environment security.
This involves designing system solutions, implementing new features, resolving complex incidents and problems, enhancing infrastructure monitoring and alerts, and consultation with application support and development staff.
By applying established best practices, you will take charge of build decisions, infrastructure design for larger, more complex systems to achieve strategic objectives through Agile-based delivery. As a strategic thinker, you help to bring out the best in those around you. You will also have the opportunity to learn and work with other database technologies and automation practices based on additional architectural design and engineering opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability, including high availability and disaster recovery (HADR) solutions.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Ansible and other tools to streamline database management tasks.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications and designs.
- Design & implement scalable infrastructure solutions, ensuring alignment with internal standards and compliance.
- Apply logical and analytical thinking to identify and solve complex infrastructure challenges.
- Conduct analysis of existing systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and innovation.
- Effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Skills:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with relational databases
- Experience with SQL queries, including but not limited to SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE commands.
- Understanding of joins, indexes, and simple data modeling
- Understanding of database schemas, tables, and relationships.
- Familiarity with popular databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Exposure to scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, or Ansible
Additional Knowledge and Experience Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Exposure to High Availability concepts, such as, Database Mirroring, Data Replication or SQL Server Always On Availability Groups (AOAG).
- Exposure to PowerBI and Gateways Administration
- Exposure to secrets management tools such as Hashicorp Vault and/or CyberArk vaulting for access administrative IDs as needed.
- Exposure to ETL, Analysis and reporting Tools.
- Experience working within Atlassian's Jira software for agile based feature and story creation and execution.
- Experience with AWS, Azure or other cloud environments including technologies such as RDS, Azure SQL Database
- Experience using database related products and technologies such as: ELK stack, Dynatrace and SolarWinds DP
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to logically analyze and creatively solve complex issues independently.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to multiple levels of the organization.
- Ability to work well with teams not centrally located.
- Ability to be self-directed and collaborative in ambiguous situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels throughout the enterprise.
- Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with limited set of requirements.
- Ability and desire to train/mentor other team members.
- 5+ Years of working with Databases both on-prem and cloud managed
- Analyzes problems independently
- Communication and Stakeholder Management: Your excellent communication skills will enable you to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including vendors and facility managers, IT staff, vendors, and end-users. You will gather requirements, manage expectations, and provide regular updates throughout the project lifecycle.
