Federal Reserve Bank of ClevelandUnder general direction, assists in establishing database management systems, standards, guidelines, and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy. Evaluates and installs database management systems. Codes complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms. Assists in the design of user interface and business application prototypes. Participates in quality assurance and develops test code. Provides expertise in devising, negotiating, and defending the tables and fields provided in the database. Adapts business requirements, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application. Helps to develop an understanding of client's original data and storage mechanisms. Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization.
Provides direction to team members and is a key contributor. May solve highly technical complex problems and be called on to consult for other projects. Assists with the transfer of knowledge of technical skills. Viewed as a Subject Matter Expert within the organization. Provides coaching to junior level employees.
1. Collaborates with application developers and testers to provide backend static and dynamic designs that satisfy functional and nonfunctional requirements provided by business analysts and application architects for moderately to highly complex software applications.
2. Assists others in analyzing and reverse engineering existing backend behavior for moderately to highly complex software applications.
3. Designs and develops database structures and procedural logic, and write any DDL, DML, and/or SQL required by the data tier of moderately to highly complex software applications
4. Assists testers with diagnosing database-related issues and/or setting up test data.
5. Generates deployment scripts and work with the technical support, configuration management, and operational database teams to deploy database changes to multiple environments; changes may include moderately to highly complex data migrations.
6. Provides ongoing second-line production support, and assist with diagnosing database related production issues for moderately to highly complex software applications.
7. Coaches and mentors database staff.
8. Works independently; receives minimal guidance.
9. Depending on the business line, may provide rotational, third-tier, 24x7 on-call support.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge & Skills
- Master of Structured Query Language.
- Master of structured programming techniques and practices.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
Education & Experience
- Two years of college or database development bootcamp certificate and 7+ years of professional work experience or
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of professional work experience or
Physical Demands & General Working Conditions
Employees typically sit most of the day, work with a computer and may answer/respond to phone calls. Physical movement consists of walking for meetings, breaks, etc. Ability to lift items weighing approximately 20 pounds on a limited basis is required. Employees may be required to travel by car/air.
